Old Office Chair Cleaning
Admin October 19, 2026
Cleaning old office chairs requires targeted methods based on different materials and components, while avoiding common cleaning mistakes. Details are as follows:

1. Caster Cleaning
- Hair Entanglement Removal: Use very small scissors to carefully cut away tangled hair. This process requires patience to avoid damaging the wheel structure.
- Dirt Removal:
- Facial Towel Method: Wet a used facial towel and let it air dry partially. Wrap the textured side around the wheel and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move back and forth to transfer dirt onto the towel. Repeat until clean, then wipe the floor with a cloth.
- Invisible Tape Method: Choose invisible tape of appropriate width and moderate stickiness. Stick it onto the wheel while keeping the tape wrinkled to prevent the wheel from becoming too slippery. After about a minute, peel off the tape to remove dirt with minimal residue.
2. Leather Executive Chair Cleaning
- Wet Newspaper Dust Removal: When there is heavy dust accumulation, wet old newspapers, tear them into pieces, and spread them evenly on the floor around the chair. The wet newspapers can absorb floating dust in the air, preventing dust from being stirred up during cleaning and thoroughly cleaning hard-to-reach areas like the chair's casters.
- Salt + Salad Oil Combination: When there are oil stains on the edges of a genuine leather seat, sprinkle a small pinch of salt and drop two drops of salad oil. Use a soft cloth to wipe in a circular motion, utilizing the abrasive effect of salt grains to remove oil stains. Finally, wipe off any remaining oil with a dry towel. Note: Never rinse a genuine leather seat directly with soapy water. Alkaline cleaners can damage the protective layer on the leather surface, leading to cracking and peeling.
3. Fabric Executive Chair Cleaning
- Old Socks as Cleaning Tools: Put discarded cotton socks on your hands, dip them in a small amount of neutral detergent, and reach into hard-to-clean areas such as armrest gaps and chair back folds to remove dust. The soft fibers of the socks will not damage the fabric and are suitable for cleaning mesh fabric chairs. For stubborn stains, use a toothbrush dipped in foam cleaner to treat the area locally, brushing in the direction of the fabric texture.
4. Deep Cleaning Process for Chairs
First, perform a comprehensive vacuuming to remove surface dust and debris from crevices. Then, apply professional foam to allow the cleaner to fully penetrate the fixed fibers. Finally, use high-temperature equipment for treatment, which can also disinfect.
5. Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid
- Metal fittings should not be scrubbed hard with steel wool. Toothpaste is the best choice as the silica abrasive in it can polish metal without leaving scratches.
- The chair base is often overlooked. Clean the dust accumulated at the rotating shaft with a vacuum cleaner every month; otherwise, it will affect the lifting function.
- Never wipe with a dry cloth (it will scratch the surface), never leave cleaning agent residue (it will corrode the material), and never expose to direct sunlight (it will cause the leather surface to crack).
