Old Leather Office Chair
There are mainly four ways to handle old leather office chairs: refurbishment, donation, recycling, and repurposing or DIY.

Refurbishment: If only the leather surface of the office chair is damaged, removing the old leather and reupholstering it with new leather (such as diamond-patterned leather) can enhance its texture. However, the specific cost depends on the chair's material, the extent of damage, and the refurbishment requirements. For example, replacing the seat surface of an ordinary solid wood chair with rattan costs about 80 to 150 yuan for labor and materials. For rosewood or old elm chairs that require fine sanding, painting, and aging treatment, the price per chair doubles, commonly ranging from 200 to 400 yuan. The refurbishment cost of a leather office chair may approach or exceed that of a high-end solid wood chair. If the overall structure of the chair is intact and only the leather surface is aged or damaged, refurbishment is an effective way to restore its usability and aesthetics.
Donation: If the old leather office chair is still sturdy and has significant usability, consider donating it to schools, libraries, public places, or charitable organizations in need. Donation not only extends the chair's lifespan but also reduces resource waste while providing convenience to those in need.
Recycling: Many cities have waste recycling policies, allowing you to sell old leather office chairs to waste recycling stations. These stations classify and process old office furniture, with materials like scrap metal being reused. You can also receive some recycling fees. This method is both environmentally friendly and economically rewarding, suitable for chairs that are severely damaged and have no repair value.
Repurposing or DIY: For those with some hands-on skills and creativity, you can dismantle the frame of the old chair and assemble it into practical furniture like flower stands or bookshelves. Alternatively, you can thicken the seat of the old chair and add cushions to make coffee stools or lazy sofas. This approach fully utilizes the remaining value of the chair while meeting personalized needs, but it requires some manual skills and tool support.
