Oil Cylinder Office Chair
Admin October 14, 2026
If there are problems with the hydraulic rod of an oil-pressure office chair, you can follow the steps below for repair. However, repair work can be dangerous, and it is recommended to seek professional help if you have no experience:

Identifying the Problem Type
- Chair cannot be raised or lowered: This may be due to poor internal sealing of the hydraulic rod or a faulty control valve. Poor sealing can lead to hydraulic oil leakage, preventing the chair from maintaining pressure for raising and lowering. A faulty control valve can affect the normal flow and pressure regulation of the hydraulic oil.
- Chair makes strange noises: This may be because the hydraulic rod lacks lubrication or has loose components. A lack of lubrication can increase friction between components, causing strange noises. Loose components can produce sounds due to collisions when the chair is in motion.
Repair Methods for Different Problems
- Sealing problems: Turn the chair upside down and carefully use appropriate tools to disassemble the connection between the hydraulic rod and the chair seat. Check if the sealing rubber ring is damaged. If the sealing rubber ring is found to be broken, aged, etc., purchase a suitable replacement sealing rubber ring. Pay attention to the installation position and direction during replacement to ensure good sealing. After replacement, reassemble the chair.
- Control valve failure: First, try cleaning the valve. Use a clean cloth or brush to remove possible impurities such as dust and oil stains. If the chair still cannot be raised or lowered normally after cleaning, it indicates that the valve may be severely damaged and needs to be replaced with a new control valve.
- Lack of lubrication: Use professional hydraulic oil or lubricating oil and drip an appropriate amount onto the moving parts of the hydraulic rod, such as between the piston and the cylinder and at the connecting joints. Then repeatedly raise and lower the chair to evenly distribute the lubricating oil and reduce friction between components.
- Loose components: Use a wrench and other tools to carefully check the screws at various parts of the chair and tighten any loose screws. Pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force during tightening to avoid damaging the screws or components by over-tightening.
Repair Precautions
Repairing the hydraulic rod of an oil-pressure office chair can be dangerous. Before operation, ensure that the chair is in a stable state. You can place it on a flat and solid ground to avoid injury if the chair falls during the repair process. If you have no repair experience or cannot solve the problem, it is recommended to seek the help of professional repair personnel.
