Office Swivel Chairs in the US
Office swivel chairs have a long history and a well-developed market in the US, boasting numerous well-known brands and innovative products.

In terms of historical origins, the concept of swivel office chairs can be traced back to the late 18th century. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, is considered the inventor of early swivel chairs. In 1849, Thomas Warren invented and produced the first truly modern office chair in history, featuring rotation, sliding, and a flexible cushioned seat, laying the foundation for the development of modern office chairs.
The US is home to several well-known office swivel chair brands, with Steelcase being one of the most representative. This brand has a history of 110 years and is one of the world's largest office furniture manufacturers. Its high-end ergonomic chairs, priced at around ten thousand yuan, are scientifically designed, fully considering ergonomic principles, and come with multiple adjustable components. For example, the seat depth adjustment function allows for personalized adjustments based on the leg length of different users, ensuring proper leg support; the lumbar support point adjustment can precisely fit the user's lumbar curve, effectively reducing lumbar pressure; and the back support force adjustment can provide just the right amount of support according to the user's weight and sitting habits, catering to the needs of different users and enhancing comfort.
Herman Miller's Embody is also a highly acclaimed product. Designed by William Stumpf and Jeff Weber, it incorporates dynamic pixel matrix technology and a BackFit adjustment mechanism. The four-layer breathable support layer evenly distributes body pressure, allowing users to remain comfortable during long hours of sitting at work. Ninety-five percent of the chair's components are made from recyclable materials, reflecting an eco-friendly concept. The chair is equipped with multiple adjustment controls, supporting adjustments to seat depth, height, and armrest width/height, with a maximum weight capacity of up to 136 kg, meeting the needs of users of different body types. Its development process involved laboratory testing conducted in collaboration with over 30 medical experts, validating the chair's effects on improving metabolism and sitting posture. It has also won the 2008 Yahoo Tech Award and the 2009 Chicago Office Furniture Show Ergonomic Chair Silver Award.
