Office and Computer Chair Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of office and computer chairs should be carried out step by step according to their structure, with core steps including tool preparation, component separation, and precautions. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Tool Preparation

Before disassembly, prepare basic tools: cross and flat-head screwdrivers, wrenches (including socket wrenches), rubber mallets, staple pullers, pry bars or plastic pry tools, rags, and penetrating oil. If the chair has a special structure (e.g., hex socket screws), an additional hex key wrench is required; for electrically adjustable seats, disconnect the power supply in advance to prevent short circuits.

II. General Operating Principles

  1. Observe the Structure: Before disassembly, identify the fastening method of the components (screws, clips, or pins) to avoid blind operations.
  2. Gentle Operation: Move slowly and avoid using excessive force to prevent deformation or damage to the parts.
  3. Component Management: It is recommended to wear gloves, place the components in categories according to the disassembly sequence, and take photos to record the structure for subsequent assembly.

III. Disassembly Methods for Core Components

1. Separation of the Base and Gas Lift

  • Step 1: Invert the chair and use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the bottom steel ring of the base to loosen the internal clips.
  • Step 2: Hold the gas lift with one hand and pry or shake the base with the other; if not separated, repeat tapping until loose.
  • Step 3: For stubborn cases, step on the five-star base with your foot and grasp the seat cushion with both hands, shaking it up and down to use leverage for removal.
  • Alternative Method: Some chairs can be disassembled by hand, or use a rubber mallet to strike the connection between the gas lift and the base vigorously (adjust the force according to the material).

2. Backrest Disassembly

  • Screw Fixation: Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws connecting the backrest to the seat cushion.
  • Clip Fixation: Use a pry bar or plastic pry tool to slowly pry open along the clip gap, avoiding scratches on the surface.
  • Hook Fixation: Look for the unlocking mechanism (e.g., a hidden button) and press it to separate the components.

3. Armrest Disassembly

  • Screw Fixation: Unscrew the screws connecting the armrests to the seat cushion or backrest counterclockwise.
  • Clip Fixation: Use a pry bar to pry open the clips, paying attention to even force.
  • Pin or Rivet Fixation: Try to pull out the pins directly; for rivet fixation, use a staple puller to cut them or use professional tools.

IV. Precautions

  1. Avoid Metal Tools: Do not use metal tools such as hammers to strike, to prevent paint peeling or structural deformation.
  2. Penetrating Oil Use: If the screws are rusted, spray penetrating oil and let it sit for 5 minutes before operating.
  3. Electrically Adjustable Seat Safety: Disconnect the power supply before disassembly to prevent circuit short circuits or accidental triggering of adjustment buttons.
  4. Gas Lift Handling: After separation, do not disassemble the internal structure of the gas lift randomly to avoid the risk of high-pressure gas ejection.

By following a systematic approach, you can efficiently complete the disassembly and maximize the protection of component integrity, facilitating subsequent cleaning, repair, or transportation.
