Office Chair Wobbling Solution

Admin October 12, 2026

To troubleshoot and resolve office chair wobbling, follow these steps:

I. Wheel Inspection and Handling
If the chair wobbles when placed upright or upside down due to uneven wheel contact with the ground, it may be caused by bent, deformed, or damaged wheel feet at the bottom. First, check the contact between each wheel foot and the ground. Turn the chair upside down and inspect the wheel feet for obvious signs of damage (such as cracks or breaks). If damaged wheels are found, it is recommended to replace the entire wheel set rather than just a single wheel to avoid wobbling caused by differences in height or friction between new and old wheels. Contact the manufacturer with the chair model to order original wheel sets, or remove an old wheel and take it to an office supply store to match a replacement set, ensuring the wheel axle shape (such as round or square) and size match the original wheels.

II. Wheel Installation and Lubrication Maintenance
Wobbling may also occur if the wheels are improperly installed or lack lubrication. When removing casters, if they cannot be pulled out by hand, insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point, using it as a lever to slowly operate back and forth, pulling out about 1 centimeter before pulling again; a very small number of casters are fixed with screws and need to be removed by loosening the screws with a screwdriver. For lubrication, apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD-40) to each chair base socket, insert the straw into the spray nozzle, and quickly spray for half a second towards the socket; if no lubricant spray is available, apply a pea-sized amount of Vaseline to each wheel axle. When reinstalling casters, tap the caster into the socket with a rubber mallet, ensuring the caster rod aligns with the base. First push gently by hand, and if it cannot be fully inserted, tap lightly with a rubber mallet. When the caster design allows, tapping near the stem base can reduce the risk of deformation or breakage. Finally, turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test if the new wheels roll smoothly and evenly. If it still tilts, continue checking other components.

III. Gas Cylinder Inspection and Adjustment
Abnormal gas cylinders can also cause chair wobbling. The way to judge is to stand up and step on the five-pointed frame of the wheels with one foot, then shake the backrest or seat cushion by hand. If a "click-click" sound is heard, the gas cylinder may be worn or loose. The connection between the gas cylinder and the seat will gradually tighten with use. If you purchase a gas cylinder separately online and install it yourself at home, sit on it forcefully a few times to activate the connection mechanism. If the gas cylinder is severely damaged, contact the manufacturer to replace it with an original gas cylinder.

IV. Handling Other Situations
If the chair becomes loose, falls apart, or has aging components due to long-term use, it can be disassembled, old glue and dust removed, and waxed for maintenance to restore stability. For specific models (such as M56/M39) with backrest wobbling, refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service for dedicated adjustment methods. If the problem is complex or cannot be resolved on your own, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for on-site inspection and repair.
