Office Chair Wobbling Issue
Office chair wobbling can be resolved through targeted troubleshooting and repair. Here are the common causes and solutions:

1. Caster Issues If the chair's wheels are uneven when placed upright or upside down, it may be due to bent, deformed, or damaged casters. Such problems can cause the chair to tilt towards the damaged side, with noticeable wobbling, especially during movement. Solution: Purchase a new set of casters that match the original ones for complete replacement, avoiding the replacement of just a single caster to prevent uneven force distribution. Use a rubber mallet to tap the new casters into the base, ensuring a secure installation.
2. Loose Structure The base structure, quality of the gas lift, or material of the chair legs are common hidden issues. For example, chair legs made of thin-walled steel tubes are prone to deformation under weight; gas lifts that have not passed SGS or BIFMA certification may produce a wobbling sensation during height adjustment. Solution: Check if the screws on the base are loose and tighten key connection points; if the gas lift wobbles, contact a professional repair technician to replace it with a compliant product; if the chair legs are severely deformed, it is recommended to directly replace the chair with a more robust ergonomic chair.
3. Gaps at Connections If ordinary screws are used at the connection between the chair back and seat cushion, gaps may widen due to wear over time, leading to wobbling. Solution: Check if the screws at the connection are loose and prioritize replacing them with self-locking screws (such as nylon anti-loosening screws), or reduce gaps by adding metal washers, welding reinforcement, etc. If the structure is severely aged, the entire connection component needs to be replaced.
4. Gas Cylinder Issues Wobbling of the gas cylinder may be accompanied by a 'clunking' sound, especially noticeable when lying down. Stability can be tested by stepping on the five-pointed wheel base and shaking the backrest or seat cushion. Solution: If the internal seal of the gas cylinder fails or the spring ages, contact a professional repair technician for replacement; if it is just loose externally, try applying threadlocker at the connection between the gas cylinder and the base and retighten it.
5. Repair Steps and Precautions If you need to repair the chair yourself, follow these steps:
- Disassembly and Inspection: Use a screwdriver to disassemble the chair, remove dust and old adhesive between components, and check for cracks or deformation;
- Lubrication: Apply lubricant (such as WD-40) to the caster sockets and moving parts of the gas lift to reduce wobbling caused by friction;
- Assembly and Testing: After installing new components in their original positions, place the chair on a flat surface and test its stability by sitting on it and shaking it.
If the overall structure of the chair is damaged (such as broken chair legs or a deformed base), repeated repairs may only provide temporary solutions. It is recommended to replace the chair with a robust ergonomic chair that has passed safety certification to resolve the wobbling issue from the root.
