Office Chair Wobble Standard

Admin October 10, 2026

The standards for office chair wobble are primarily reflected in stability tests, based on either the GB/T 10357.2 or BIFMA X5.1 standards. The core requirement is that an office chair must not tip over when subjected to tilting forces in any direction, with specific stability requirements for forward, lateral, and backward tilting.

Forward Stability: When an office chair is in a forward-tilted position and loaded with a weight of 102 kg, the chair legs must not lift off the ground. This requirement ensures that the chair remains stable during forward-leaning usage scenarios, such as when the user leans forward to perform tasks, preventing tipping due to forward force and ensuring the user's safety.

Lateral Stability: Under lateral force conditions, also with a load of 102 kg, the armrests or seat edges of the office chair must not touch the ground. This means that the chair can maintain its balance when subjected to lateral forces, such as when the user leans to one side or is bumped by an external force, preventing it from tipping over to one side.

Backward Stability: When a load of 102 kg is applied to the backrest, the front legs of the office chair must not lift more than 6 mm. This requirement addresses situations where the chair is reclined backward, ensuring that when the user reclines for rest, the chair does not tip due to excessive backward force, avoiding dangerous situations where the chair becomes unbalanced or even tips over.

In addition, issues related to office chair wobble and looseness may involve the stability of multiple components. Components such as the five-star base and its connecting screws, gas lift, the connection between the seat and gas lift, the connection between the armrests and backrest, and the backrest support structure can all cause the chair to wobble if they become loose or worn. Therefore, in daily use, in addition to ensuring that the office chair meets the above stability standards, it is also necessary to regularly check the tightness of these key components and promptly replace any worn or damaged parts to ensure the overall stability and safety of the office chair.
