Office Chairs Without Hydraulic Systems

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chairs are not entirely without hydraulic types, but the vast majority of office chairs on the market use pneumatic rods for height adjustment, with limited application scenarios for hydraulic chairs. The specific reasons are as follows:

  1. Low Market Demand
    As a niche category of office furniture, hydraulic chairs have relatively low overall market demand. In typical office settings, users tend to prefer pneumatic rod chairs or fixed-height chairs, which are more cost-effective and easier to operate. The complex structure and high maintenance costs of hydraulic chairs make them difficult to become mainstream choices.

  2. High Production and Maintenance Costs
    Hydraulic systems rely on hydraulic oil to transmit pressure, requiring regular inspection of oil seals to prevent oil leaks, with an average annual maintenance cost of approximately 50-100 yuan. If a fault occurs, it is usually necessary to replace the entire hydraulic assembly, resulting in significantly higher repair costs compared to pneumatic rods. Additionally, hydraulic oil may affect performance stability due to changes in ambient temperature, further limiting its application range.

  3. Product Characteristic Limitations
    The mechanical structure of hydraulic chairs is complex, including components such as hydraulic pumps, oil pipes, and pistons, leading to a higher fault rate (e.g., hydraulic leaks, height adjustment jams). After prolonged use, the aging of hydraulic oil may result in uneven height adjustment, affecting the user experience. In contrast, pneumatic rods achieve height adjustment by compressing nitrogen gas, featuring a simple structure and low fault rate, making them more suitable for high-frequency office use.

  4. More Pronounced Advantages of Pneumatic Rods
    Pneumatic rods have an automatic locking function, allowing for easy height adjustment with a light press, and offer high safety (the risk of explosion in modern pneumatic rods is extremely low). Their lightweight design (typically 30%-50% lighter than hydraulic systems) and quiet operation are more in line with office environment requirements. Currently, over 90% of office chairs on the market use pneumatic rods, which have become the industry standard.

Special Scenario Applications
Hydraulic chairs still exist in fields with extremely high requirements for load-bearing capacity or height adjustment stability, such as:

  • Factory Workshops: Hydraulic lifting workbenches can withstand frequent heavy-duty operations;
  • Medical Care: Multi-functional hydraulic transfer chairs require precise control of patient positioning;
  • Barber Shops: Hydraulic lifting stainless steel armrest chairs need to provide long-term stable support for customers.
    In these scenarios, the continuous pressure output and impact resistance of hydraulic systems are irreplaceable by pneumatic rods.
