Office Chair with Skateboard

Admin October 19, 2026

There are creative design cases for office chairs combined with skateboards, mainly by integrating skateboard elements into the structure of office chairs to achieve innovative mobility functions.

1. Mobilité Seat: Functional and Material Innovation
The Mobilité seat, developed collaboratively by designers Tim Defleur and Benjamin Helle, is a typical example of combining office chairs with skateboards. Its core design involves using solid foam for the skateboard part, covered with a thick felt layer as padding, ensuring both cushioning during gliding and enhanced seat comfort. The seat back is connected to the seat surface via slots, allowing free movement forward or backward. When the user needs to move, they simply pull the backrest out of the slots, enabling the skateboard part to touch the ground and achieve gliding functionality. This design cleverly utilizes the portability of skateboards while retaining the support structure of traditional office chairs, making it suitable for flexible movement in short-distance office scenarios.

2. Chair with Skateboard Backrest: Social Interaction and Modularity
The same design team also proposed the concept of a “chair with a skateboard backrest,” further expanding the combination of skateboards and office chairs. This design directly installs a wooden board on the seat, covered with thick foam for added comfort. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the skateboard part not only serves individual mobility but also allows multiple users to “glide” simultaneously through modular design, creating a social interaction scenario similar to “ice skating.” This design breaks the single-function limitation of traditional office furniture, integrating sports elements into the office environment and providing new ideas for team collaboration or leisure scenarios.

3. Inspiration from the Integration of Skateboard Culture and Office Furniture
The modular skateboard furniture series designed by the Zenga Brothers team, although not directly involving office chairs, offers important inspiration for this field. Their products achieve the transformation between traditional furniture (such as tables and chairs) and skateboard props through mechanical structures, for example, folding table legs to serve as skateboards. This design logic emphasizes “multi-functionality” and “scenario adaptability,” suggesting that the combination of office chairs and skateboards can be achieved through similar ideas—such as designing detachable skateboard bases or switching between office and gliding modes through folding mechanisms, thereby balancing functionality and fun.

Summary
The combination of office chairs and skateboards is mainly achieved through material innovation (such as solid foam skateboards), structural modifications (such as detachable backrests), and modular design. These cases not only enhance the mobility of office furniture but also incorporate sports and social elements, providing reference directions for the diverse needs of future office scenarios.
