Office Chair with Gas Lift

Admin October 16, 2026

Adding or replacing a gas lift for an office chair usually refers to the process of enhancing or changing the gas lift, which is a core component for adjusting the seat height. When selecting or replacing a gas lift, attention should be paid to safety, compatibility, and usage scenarios.

Core Functions and Types of Gas Lifts

The gas lift (also known as a lifting rod) is a crucial part of an office chair, enabling height adjustment of the seat through internal high-pressure gas to meet the needs of users of different heights. Based on function and scenario, gas lifts can be divided into two categories:

  1. Explosion-proof Gas Lifts: These are designed with high-strength steel and explosion-proof features, filled with inert gases (such as nitrogen) to prevent explosion risks caused by abnormal air pressure. They are suitable for general office scenarios and offer high safety.
  2. Gaming Chair Gas Lifts: Specifically designed for gaming chairs, these usually have a longer stroke (adjustment range) and faster response speed. Some products support multi-position locking to meet the needs of frequent posture adjustments during gaming.

Considerations for Selection and Replacement

  1. Compatibility: Choose a gas lift that matches the model of your office chair, considering key parameters such as stroke length (e.g., 8-12cm), diameter (e.g., 28mm), and interface type (e.g., standard five-claw interface). Mismatched sizes may lead to installation difficulties or seat wobbling.
  2. Safety Certification: Prioritize products that have passed international safety certifications (such as BIFMA, SGS), with certification marks typically printed on the surface of the gas lift. Poor-quality gas lifts may pose safety hazards due to unstable air pressure or material defects.
  3. Price and After-sales Service: Gas lifts on the market vary greatly in price (from a few yuan to tens of yuan). Low-priced products may use recycled materials or simplified processes. It is recommended to choose merchants that offer replacement services (e.g., free replacement within one year of damage) to reduce usage risks.

Simple Replacement Steps

  1. Remove the Old Gas Lift: Invert the office chair and gently tap the connection points between the gas lift and the seat and base with a rubber mallet to separate and remove the old lift.
  2. Install the New Gas Lift: Insert the new gas lift into the base hole, ensuring a complete fit at the interface. Then, align the seat part with the top of the gas lift and press it in until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating proper installation.
  3. Test Adjustment: Sit on the chair and adjust the height multiple times to check if the gas lift operates smoothly without jamming or abnormal noises.

If you are unfamiliar with the operation, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician or refer to the chair's instruction manual to avoid damaging components due to improper operation.
