Office Chair with Electricity

Admin October 17, 2026

An office chair with electricity may involve static electricity or electric leakage, and targeted solutions should be implemented based on the specific cause.

Static Electricity Situation and Handling

If the seat and backrest of the office chair are made of chemical fiber fabrics or synthetic leather and other materials, in a dry environment, dust and charged ions in the atmosphere gather on the surface of the office chair after being charged, forming static electricity. Static electricity may affect the normal operation of equipment such as computers, cause discomfort such as electric shocks and stings to people, and also attract dust, making the office chair difficult to clean. The following measures can be taken to solve the problem:

  • Maintain appropriate indoor humidity: Increase the indoor humidity appropriately. You can increase the surface humidity by using a humidifier indoors or spraying some water on the surface of the office chair to reduce the generation of static electricity.
  • Replace seat cushions or back cushions: Replace the seat cushions and back cushions made of chemical fiber fabrics or synthetic leather with pure cotton, genuine leather, or other softer materials to reduce the probability of static electricity generation.
  • Use anti-static office chair mats: There are anti-static office chair mats made of anti-static materials available on the market, which can effectively reduce the problem of static electricity generation in office chairs.
  • Sprinkle metal powder: If the surface of the office chair is relatively smooth, you can sprinkle some fine metal powder on the surface and use its conductivity to alleviate the static electricity problem.

Electric Leakage Situation and Handling

If an electric chair with a power supply line (such as a gaming chair or an electric office chair) has an electric leakage, the core of safe handling is to immediately stop using it for inspection, carry out targeted repairs or replacement, and avoid the risk of electric shock. The specific steps are as follows:

  • Cut off the power supply immediately: Do not continue to use or touch it to prevent electric shock.
  • Inspect the cause of the electric leakage: Common situations include the aging and damage of the outer layer of the wire, exposing the internal copper wire, loose internal wiring, short-circuit damage to live components, or the accumulation of static electricity due to the ungrounded metal components.
  • Carry out targeted handling: If the outer layer of the wire is worn, you can first cut off the power supply and then tightly wrap the damaged part with insulating tape, being careful to avoid the live parts during wrapping; if the internal wiring is loose, you need to open the chair shell (keep the power off throughout the process) and tighten the wiring terminals; if electrical components (such as the electric adjustment motor or control module) are damaged, directly replace the corresponding components or the entire chair; if the metal parts of an ordinary non-electric chair are leaking electricity, it may be due to static electricity caused by moisture or dust. First, dry the metal parts, and you can also ground the metal legs of the chair. However, if the electric leakage situation persists, you should still stop using it.
  • Contact professionals: If you are unsure of the cause of the electric leakage or there are still problems after handling, do not disassemble and repair it by yourself. Contact professionals in a timely manner for inspection to ensure electrical safety.
