Office Chair with Brake

Admin October 22, 2026

The braking function of office chairs is mainly achieved through four methods: pressure sensing, dual-brake light casters, gravity locking, and manual locking.

Pressure-Sensing Brake Device: Some office chairs, such as the RENBERGET swivel chair, are equipped with safety casters featuring pressure-sensing brake devices. When a person stands up, the casters automatically trigger the braking mechanism by sensing changes in pressure, keeping the chair fixed in place. When the person sits down and the pressure is restored, the brakes are automatically released, and the chair becomes movable again. This design requires no manual operation and is suitable for scenarios requiring frequent standing and sitting.

Dual-Brake Light Caster Braking Structure: A dual-locking mechanism specifically designed for office chairs is triggered by pressing down on the brake lever. The cam mechanism simultaneously acts on the friction surface along the outer edge of the wheel and the positioning teeth of the steering bracket, achieving dual locking of both rolling and rotational degrees of freedom. High-quality dual-brake casters use cold-rolled steel bases and nylon-coated brake pads, which undergo durability testing to ensure controlled brake force decay, making them suitable for hard floors and carpets.

Gravity Locking Design: Some office chairs, such as most models from Hban, use gravity-sensing technology. When a person leaves the seat, the base gas lift automatically locks the wheels through changes in gravity. When the person sits down again and the gravity is released, the wheels become free. This design relies on the mechanical structure of the gas lift and requires no additional operation, but it is essential to ensure the quality of the gas lift is reliable to avoid brake failure.

Manual Locking Design: Some high-end or custom-made office chairs are equipped with side levers or pedal brakes. For example, the side lever on Hban chairs can be pulled up to lock the wheels and pulled down to unlock them. Pedal brakes are activated by stepping on the base pedal to lock the wheels. Manual designs offer more flexible control but require active operation by the user, making them suitable for scenarios with clear fixed-position requirements.

According to industry standards, the casters of office chairs with brakes must pass wear resistance and steering flexibility tests to ensure no detachment or damage occurs on hard floors, carpets, and other surfaces, guaranteeing safety and durability in use.
