Office Chair Wheel Styles

Admin October 10, 2026

Common styles of office chair wheels include fixed, brake-equipped, seat-brake, and various sizes of universal wheels, among others. Here is a detailed introduction:

Fixed wheels: Once installed, the position of the wheels is fixed, and they cannot move freely. These wheels are suitable for scenarios where the chair needs to remain in a fixed position for an extended period, such as when performing precise operations at a specific workbench, where accidental chair movement can affect work accuracy.

Brake-equipped wheels: The rotation of the wheels is controlled by a braking mechanism. When the chair's position needs to be fixed, stepping on or pressing the brake pad locks the wheels, preventing movement; releasing the brake pad restores the wheels' ability to rotate. These wheels are practical in scenarios where frequent switching between chair movement and fixation is required, such as in conference rooms, where participants can brake the chair when seated and release the brake to move the chair when standing up for discussions.

Seat-brake wheels: These wheels have a unique design. Normally, the chair can move freely, but when a person sits on it, the wheels automatically lock, preventing the chair from sliding. These wheels are suitable for scenarios where some activity space is needed, but chair stability is required when seated, such as when employees in an office move around and communicate in the work area before sitting down to work.

Universal wheels: These are a relatively common type of office chair wheels, capable of rotating flexibly in any direction. Depending on their specifications and materials, they can be further divided into various styles:

  • By specification: There are 1.4-inch load-bearing casters, 1.5-inch wear-resistant casters, 2-inch double-wheel threaded universal wheels, etc. Different specifications of universal wheels have varying load-bearing capacities, and the appropriate specification can be selected based on the weight of the office chair and usage requirements.
  • By material: They include nylon wheels, rubber wheels, polyurethane (PU) wheels, etc. Nylon wheels have good wear resistance and are relatively inexpensive; rubber wheels offer excellent noise reduction, reducing noise generated during movement; polyurethane (PU) wheels combine the advantages of wear resistance and noise reduction, with superior performance.
  • Special functions: Some universal wheels also have features such as anti-static and brake functions. For example, anti-static silent uncovered medical wheels are suitable for medical and other places with anti-static requirements; universal wheels with brakes further enhance the flexibility of chair fixation.
