Office Chair Wheel Replacement
The replacement of office chair wheels can be carried out according to the following steps:

Step 1: Remove the old wheels
Choose the appropriate removal method based on the type of wheel. For screw-fixed wheels, prepare a suitable screwdriver (such as a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver). Fully insert the tip of the screwdriver into the screw slot and rotate it slowly in a clockwise direction until the screw is completely unscrewed. Keep the screwdriver perpendicular to the screw during operation to avoid slipping and damaging the hole in the chair leg. For circular-pin-type wheels, you can directly grasp the main body of the wheel with your hand and pull it out perpendicular to the chair leg. If the friction between the pin and the hole is too high due to long-term use, you can use tools to assist. Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the pin and the hole and gently pry to widen the gap. Or use pliers to grip the base of the pin, and use a hammer to lightly tap the handle of the pliers with your other hand to loosen the pin through vibration and then pull it out. Control the force during operation to avoid damaging the surface of the chair leg or causing the hole to deform.
Step 2: Clean the installation area
After removal, clean the hole in the chair leg and the surrounding area. Use a dry cloth to wipe away any remaining dust, debris, or old lubricant in the hole to ensure a flat and clean installation surface. If there are burrs or protrusions on the edge of the hole, gently sand them smooth with sandpaper to prevent the new wheel from being obstructed by friction or making abnormal noises during installation. Be careful to avoid water entering the hole during cleaning to prevent metal parts from rusting.
Step 3: Install the new wheels
New wheels are usually designed with pins. When installing, align the metal pin of the wheel with the hole in the chair leg and apply downward pressure vertically. If it is not fully inserted with one press, adjust the angle and try again, or gently pat the top of the wheel with the palm of your hand to assist in positioning. Key point: Ensure that the pin is fully inserted into the hole during installation, with the bottom of the wheel closely fitting against the surface of the chair leg and no wobbling. If the hole has enlarged due to long-term use, wrap 2-3 layers of Teflon tape (or thin tape) around the pin to increase friction and then install it.
Precautions:
- Before replacement, confirm that the specifications (such as pin diameter and length) of the new wheel are the same as those of the original wheel to avoid installation failure or damage to the chair leg due to size mismatch.
- It is recommended to wear gloves during operation to prevent your hands from being scratched by metal parts or stained with oil.
- If the chair leg is made of plastic, be more cautious during removal and installation to avoid cracking due to excessive force.
