Office Chair Wheel Removal
The method for removing office chair wheels varies depending on the type of wheel. Here are the specific removal steps:

Screw-fixed wheels:
These wheels are connected to the chair base with screws and require a Phillips screwdriver for removal. First, flip the chair so that the bottom is facing up and locate the screws where the wheels are attached to the base. Use a long, thin Phillips screwdriver to align with the screws and turn them counterclockwise to unscrew them. If the screws are rusty or too tight, you can first lubricate the connection with a small amount of hydraulic oil and then remove the screws once they are loose. After removing the screws, the wheels can be directly pulled out from the base.
Groove-fixed wheels:
These wheels are fixed to the base with clips or grooves and require external force for removal. First, flip the chair and hold the wheel bracket firmly with your hand (to prevent the chair from moving during hammering). Then, use a rubber mallet to repeatedly strike the connection between the wheel and the base. Strike with even force and from different angles multiple times to gradually loosen the clips or grooves. If the wheel still does not come off, you can insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the base and gently pry to assist in separation.
General removal steps:
- Prepare tools: Wrench, Phillips screwdriver, rubber mallet, hydraulic oil (optional).
- Flip the chair: Turn the chair upside down with the bottom facing up, taking care to protect the chair surface from scratches.
- Separate the base: Use a wrench to unscrew the screws on the chair base gasket and separate the middle pull rod from the base. Be gentle when turning the screws to avoid damaging the threads with excessive force.
- Remove wheel screws: Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the fixing screws on the wheels (the screws are small and require a long, thin screwdriver). If the screws are too tight, you can first lubricate the connection with hydraulic oil.
- Strike to loosen: Use a rubber mallet to gently strike the connection between the wheel and the base to loosen the wheel. If the wheel is tightly fixed, you can strike it a few times before turning the screws.
- Remove the wheel: Once the wheel is loose, simply pull it out. If the wheel still does not come off, you can assist in removal by combining striking and prying.
Precautions:
- Ensure the chair is stable before removal to prevent it from tipping over when flipped.
- Be mindful of the force when using tools to avoid damaging the chair or getting injured.
- If the wheel is difficult to remove, do not forcefully pull it. Prioritize using lubrication or striking methods for handling.
