Office Chair Wheel Removal

Admin October 16, 2026

There are several methods for removing the wheels of an office chair, and you can choose the appropriate one based on the actual situation:

Method 1: Use Needle-Nose Pliers to Pry

If there is a gap between the wheel and the chair leg, you can first try using needle-nose pliers to assist with removal. Insert the tip of the needle-nose pliers into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg, gently pry to widen the gap, and at the same time, try to shake the wheel left and right to loosen it using the principle of leverage. This method is suitable for situations where the connection between the wheel and the chair leg is relatively loose or has worn out due to long-term use. When operating, be careful to control the force to avoid scratching the surface of the chair leg.

Method 2: Remove the Snap Ring Rod

For some office chairs, the wheels are fixed with a snap ring rod, and you need to use a flat-head screwdriver or a similar tool for operation. First, observe the connection between the wheel and the chair leg. If you find a snap ring rod (usually a thin metal rod), insert the flat-head tool into the gap between the snap ring and the chair leg, and forcefully pry upwards to remove the old rod. This step requires a significant amount of force. If female users have difficulty operating, it is recommended to seek assistance from male users. After removal, when installing a new wheel, press the snap ring rod back into the fixing hole to ensure the wheel is secure.

Method 3: Pull Out Directly with Force (Suitable for Tight Fits)

Due to mold manufacturing errors, some wheels fit too tightly with the chair legs and need to be removed by forceful disassembly. Ensure safety during operation:

  1. Flip the five-star chair leg of the office chair so that the wheels face upwards;
  2. Press down on the center of the chair leg with one hand to fix it, and grasp the edge of the wheel with the other hand;
  3. Pull outwards evenly with force, and you can try to shake the wheel slightly left and right to break the friction;
  4. Pull out all the wheels in sequence.
    Precautions: This method may require a significant amount of force. It is recommended to wear gloves before operation to prevent scratches. If the wheel still cannot be pulled out, you can try soaking the connection between the wheel and the chair leg in hot water (using the principle of thermal expansion and contraction) or spraying a lubricant (such as WD-40) into the gap and waiting for 5 minutes before trying again.

Friendly Reminder: Before disassembly, it is recommended to take a photo of the connection structure between the wheel and the chair leg for reference during subsequent installation. If the wheel is broken due to aging, clean up the remaining fragments before installing a new wheel.
