Office Chair Wheel Quality

Admin October 12, 2026

The quality of office chair wheels should be comprehensively considered from multiple aspects such as load-bearing capacity, material, installation method, functionality, and quality hazards.

Load-bearing requirements: Different usage scenarios have varying load-bearing requirements for wheels. Ordinary home office chairs typically have a load-bearing capacity of 80 - 120kg, which can meet daily office and study needs. For corporate workstation chairs, due to high usage frequency and significant differences in the weights of users, high-load-bearing wheels with a capacity of over 150kg may be required to ensure long-term use without deformation or damage.

Material selection: The material directly affects the performance of the wheels and the protection of the floor. PU (polyurethane) material is soft and will not scratch solid wood floors or PVC tiles. It rolls silently without producing harsh noises. Soft PU wheels (polyurethane-wrapped wheels) have an outer layer of soft polyurethane material, providing a gentler contact with the ground, reducing the risk of floor scratches, and offering excellent noise reduction. Rubber material is suitable for hard concrete floors in workshops and warehouses, being highly wear-resistant, but it produces slightly more noise when rolling on smooth floors. Hard plastic wheels (PP/PU hard wheels) are hard and smooth on the surface but lack elasticity. When used on hard floors such as wood, tiles, or marble, long-term rolling can easily trap sand or dust, leaving fine scratches and increasing the risk of floor damage, especially for light-colored floors.

Installation method: Most office chair wheels use a simple plug-and-play installation method, which is convenient. A few are screw-fixed models. Before purchasing, it is necessary to confirm the installation interface type of your own chair to avoid buying the wrong installation structure that may render the wheels unusable.

Other functions: Wheels with brake functions can fix the position of the chair, preventing it from sliding during long periods of sitting, which is very practical for people with back problems who need a stable sitting posture.

Quality hazards: According to the national supervision and random inspection results of office chairs released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, five batches of products failed the caster reciprocating wear test. This may lead to accelerated wear of the wheels during use, affecting their service life and even posing safety hazards. Therefore, when purchasing, it is advisable to choose products from reputable brands with quality guarantees.
