Office Chair Wheel Modification
There are mainly three ways to modify or utilize office chair wheels: self-repair, adding modifications to seats, and creative home modifications. Details are as follows:

Self-repair: When the wheels of an office chair are damaged, you can repair them yourself. This requires first determining the specific nature of the wheel damage, such as whether the wheel itself is worn, the bearings are damaged, or the connecting components are loose. For some simple faults, like loose connecting components, you can simply tighten them with the appropriate tools; if the wheel or bearings are damaged, you can purchase replacement parts of the same specifications. Self-repair not only saves the cost of replacing new wheels but also extends the lifespan of the office chair.
Adding modifications to seats: You can modify MPV seats, such as those from a GL8, into office chairs by adding universal wheels. The specific steps involve first removing the seat base, then installing a metal bracket through welding or bolting, and finally attaching the universal wheels to the metal bracket. This modification method is relatively low-cost, with the total cost controllable within 300 yuan (about 300 yuan for a GL8 cloth seat and about 500 yuan for a leather seat). Moreover, the modified seat offers richer functionality, supporting multi-angle adjustments and even full recline, providing users with a more comfortable office or rest experience.
Creative home modifications: The casters removed from old office chairs can be used for various creative home modifications. For example, you can make a mobile flower pot base using wooden boards and universal wheels, choosing silent universal wheels; if the flower pot is large, you can opt for heavy-duty wheels with stronger load-bearing capacity for easy movement without noise. You can also DIY a mobile trolley by attaching a storage box to the caster base removed from an old chair, securing it with zip ties or screws for storing various items. Additionally, you can attach universal wheels to the bottom of a wooden board to make a plant tray; install them on the base of a computer tower for easy cable connection and dust cleaning; stick them to the base of a floor-standing fan for easy movement; modify the bottom of a drawer into a wheeled structure for children to easily pull out and play with toys; use idle fruit baskets or mesh sheets to fix universal wheels and make a mobile laundry basket; use wooden strips, mesh sheets, and directional wheels to assemble a simple drawer and place it under a shoe cabinet for easy shoe retrieval; or place an electric rice cooker on an old cutting board and install directional wheels to utilize vertical space.
