Office Chair Wheel Lubrication
Office chair wheel lubrication should be standardized from four aspects: lubrication cycle, lubricant selection, lubrication operation, and precautions.

Lubrication Cycle: For daily home office chairs with lifting, caster, or adjustment functions, lubrication is typically required every 6 - 12 months; if used frequently (more than 8 hours a day), the cycle can be shortened to 3 - 6 months. Ordinary backrest chairs without mechanical moving parts do not require regular lubrication. The core basis for lubrication is the actual condition of the moving parts: when there is stuttering, abnormal noise, or difficulty in lifting and lowering, lubrication should be carried out promptly regardless of whether the time cycle has been reached. If the chair is frequently moved for cleaning or the casters experience frequent friction with the ground, leading to faster wear, the lubrication cycle should also be shortened accordingly.
Lubricant Selection: Silicone-based sprays or special furniture lubrication sprays are preferred as they have low viscosity and are less likely to attract dust. WD - 40 multi-purpose rust-proof lubricant, sewing machine oil, or office equipment special lubricating oil can also be used. It is strictly necessary to avoid using sticky substances such as butter or cooking oil as they are prone to attracting dust and can accelerate component wear.
Lubrication Operation:
- Clean and Dry: Use a dry cloth or brush to remove dust and old lubricant from the wheel axles, steering cups, and other parts, ensuring no residual moisture.
- Apply Lubricant: Spray silicone-based spray or special lubricant on all rotating parts such as the wheel axles and steering cups; if using lubricating oil, drop 1 - 2 drops at the bearings and then manually rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the oil.
- Even Coverage: After lubrication, slightly rotate the moving parts to ensure the lubricant penetrates into the gaps and forms a complete lubricating film.
Precautions:
- Safe Operation: Stabilize the chair before lubrication. If it is an electric lifting chair, unplug the power supply to avoid accidental injury.
- Special Treatment for Deep Cleaning: If deep cleaning of the wheel axles is required, after drying, spray a small amount of graphite powder for lubrication. Do not use lubricating oilโsticky substances will attract dust and form grease, exacerbating wear.
- Environmental Adaptation: If the chair is in a humid or dusty environment for a long time, shorten the lubrication cycle and strengthen cleaning to maintain the lubrication effect.
