Office Chair Wheel Lock

Admin October 09, 2026

There are various types of office chair wheel locks to meet the needs of different scenarios.

One common solution is to replace the wheels with locking-function ones. For example, wheels with a diameter of 60 millimeters, which are wrapped in soft PU material and equipped with silent covers. These wheels are locked through a mechanical structure. To fix the chair, simply push down the locking device on the side of the wheel. At this time, the contact area between the wheel and the ground increases and the resistance is enhanced, ensuring the chair remains stable and does not move. To unlock it, push up the device to restore the rolling function. A set usually contains 5 wheels, providing balanced support and is suitable for scenarios that require frequent switching between fixed and mobile states.

Gravity wheels are another design. They have a gravity-sensing mechanism inside. When the chair is in use, the weight of the human body presses on the wheel, triggering the internal device, which restricts side-to-side sliding by increasing the friction between the wheel axle and the bearing. This design creates some resistance during movement but also reduces rolling noise, making it suitable for office environments with high noise-reduction requirements, such as open-plan offices or libraries.

Fixed foot pads are a physical locking method that achieves locking by replacing the original wheels. To use them, pull out the wheels and insert the matching rubber or plastic foot pads so that the chair directly contacts the ground. This method offers extremely high stability and almost completely eliminates the possibility of movement. It is especially suitable for family environments with children or the elderly, preventing falls caused by chair sliding.

Some high-end office chairs adopt a press-type locking design, such as the Sihoo M56 ergonomic chair. It has a pedal device on the outside of the wheels. Users can trigger the internal catch mechanism by lightly stepping on it with their feet to lock the wheels; stepping on it again will release the lock. This design is easy to operate without bending over or using tools, making it suitable for scenarios that require quick adjustments, such as when fixing seats during a meeting.

Applicability in different scenarios: For children's office chairs, it is advisable to prioritize the wheel-locking function to prevent children from falling or being distracted due to chair movement, especially providing stable support during fine activities such as handicrafts. In shared spaces with multiple children, fixed wheels can prevent collision interference. In family environments, fixed foot pads or gravity wheels can enhance the safety of the elderly when using chairs.
