Office Chair Wheel Installation

Admin October 12, 2026

The installation of office chair wheels requires selecting the appropriate method based on the wheel type. Here are the specific steps:

1. Pre-installation Preparation

  1. Identify the Old Wheel Type:

    • Snap-ring Type: The connection point of the wheel has a circular shape and is usually fixed with a snap-ring.
    • Threaded Type: The connection point of the wheel has a hexagonal shape and is screwed in tightly with threads.
    • If it is the first installation for a new chair, you can skip the disassembly steps and proceed directly to the installation process.
  2. Tool Preparation:

    • For snap-ring type wheels, prepare a screwdriver (flat-head or Phillips-head) to pry open the snap-ring.
    • For threaded type wheels, prepare a wrench (the size should match the hexagonal interface) for rotation and disassembly.

2. Removing Old Wheels (If Replacement is Needed)

  1. Removing Snap-ring Type Wheels:

    • Insert the screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg connection point, and gently pry open the snap-ring disc to separate the wheel from the chair leg.
    • Be careful with the force applied during operation to avoid damaging the chair leg interface or the snap-ring structure.
  2. Removing Threaded Type Wheels:

    • Use a wrench to fix the hexagonal interface of the wheel and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew the old wheel.
    • If the wheel is rusted or stuck, you can spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to assist in disassembly.

3. Installing New Wheels

  1. General Steps:

    • For some chairs, you need to first install the five wheels onto the five-star base and then install the entire assembly under the chair seat.
    • Plug-in Installation: Simply align the new wheel with the chair leg interface and insert it forcefully until you hear a 'click' sound (for snap-ring type) or it is completely screwed in (for threaded type).
  2. Type-specific Installation:

    • Snap-ring Type: Align the new wheel with the interface, press it vertically downward, and you will hear a sound indicating that the snap-ring is in place when the installation is complete.
    • Threaded Type: Align the hexagonal interface of the wheel with the threaded hole on the chair leg, and use a wrench to turn it clockwise until it is completely fixed to prevent loosening.

4. Post-installation Inspection

  1. Stability Test:

    • Push the chair to check if the wheels rotate smoothly without any jamming or wobbling.
    • Confirm that all wheels are installed in the same direction (for example, universal wheels should be able to rotate 360 degrees).
  2. Safety Confirmation:

    • Ensure that the wheels are tightly connected to the chair legs without any looseness or gaps to prevent them from falling off during use.
    • If the heights of the wheels are inconsistent after installation, you need to readjust or replace the wheel models.

Tip: If the wheel interface does not match the chair leg (such as a size mismatch), you need to contact the merchant to replace it with a compatible model to avoid damage caused by forced installation.
