Heightening Office Chair Wheels
Office chairs can be heightened by replacing the wheels or using height-increasing casters, but attention should be paid to compatibility and the impact of long-term use.

Heightening by Replacing Universal Wheels
The typical wheel diameter range for office chairs is 50-75mm. If heightening is needed, larger-diameter wheels can be installed. Before operation, measure the diameter and length of the original wheel axle to ensure that the axle hole of the new wheel matches the wheel axle, avoiding installation difficulties or looseness. Long-term use of large-diameter wheels may accelerate wear, especially on uneven floors where increased friction between the wheel and the ground can easily lead to surface wear or axle looseness. It is recommended to choose nylon wheels, which have better wear resistance and impact resistance than ordinary plastic, improving stability and reducing sliding risks.
Overall Heightening Using Height-Increasing Casters
If the chair needs to be raised overall (e.g., by 3-8 cm), height-increasing casters that fit the size of the swivel chair casters can be purchased. These casters usually come with extended axles and can directly replace the original casters without additional modifications. Two key points should be confirmed when choosing:
- Load-bearing capacity: Choose based on the user's weight and the chair's load. Generally, office chairs have a load-bearing requirement of 100-150kg. Overloading may cause the casters to deform or break;
- Installation compatibility: The axle hole diameter and axle length of the height-increasing casters must be exactly the same as those of the original wheels; otherwise, installation may fail or the chair's balance may be affected.
Precautions
- Short-term use: If only temporary heightening is needed, hard spacers (such as wooden or plastic boards) can be placed under the wheels, but ensure that the spacers are flat to avoid chair tilting;
- Long-term use: Prioritize height-increasing casters, which have better structural stability than simply replacing larger wheels and can evenly distribute pressure, reducing wear on the axle;
- Floor compatibility: If the floor is carpeted or made of soft materials, it is recommended to choose wheels with a larger diameter (โฅ70mm) or brake functions to prevent the chair from sliding; hard floors (such as tiles or wooden floors) do not require special designs.
By reasonably choosing wheel types or height-increasing casters, the heightening needs of office chairs can be safely met while extending the chair's service life.
