Office Chair Wheel Fixation

Admin October 09, 2026

There are multiple ways to fix the wheels of an office chair. Here are some common and effective methods:

  1. Using Fixed Foot Pads
Fixed foot pads are a solution that directly replaces the original wheels, such as 2-inch fixed foot casters for swivel chairs. Their design typically includes a snap-spring insertion structure, which, after installation, tightly combines with the chair legs through the snap-spring to prevent sliding. Some products are also equipped with felt pads, which not only enhance the anti-slip effect but also reduce wear on the floor, making them particularly suitable for wooden or tiled floors.

  2. Brake Pad Fixation
Some wheels come with built-in brake functions, allowing the wheels to be locked by pressing or flipping the brake pads. This design is commonly found in office chair wheels with adjustable heights, enabling users to switch between rolling and fixed states as needed. Brake pads are usually made of metal or high-strength plastic to ensure stability after locking.

  3. Seat-Activated Brake Wheels
Seat-activated brake wheels are an intelligent fixation solution that utilizes the user's body weight to trigger the locking mechanism. When the user sits down, the pressure-sensitive device or mechanical structure inside the wheel automatically locks, preventing the chair from moving; when the user stands up, it returns to a rolling state. This design requires no manual operation and is suitable for users who frequently need to switch between fixed and mobile scenarios.

  4. Chair Caster Fixators
Caster fixators are external auxiliary tools that are fixed to the outside of the wheels through clips or adhesive methods. Common styles include PVC soft-bottom models and nylon felt models, with the latter having a felt layer thickness of up to 3mm, which can increase friction and cushion impact. Installation simply involves aligning the fixator with the edge of the wheel and pressing it down, making it easy to operate and reusable.

  5. Rubber Slot-Type Fixators
Rubber slot-type fixators are made of elastic rubber and wrap around the wheels through a slot structure, using the friction of the rubber to achieve fixation. Some products are designed for universal wheels and can wrap around the wheel body 360 degrees to prevent lateral sliding. These fixators are typically suitable for wheels with smaller diameters and require regular inspection for rubber aging.

  6. Caster Chair Foot Covers
Foot covers are protective devices that cover the entire wheel and are commonly made of TPU and felt. TPU foot covers wrap around the wheel through elastic contraction and feature an anti-slip pattern on the bottom; felt foot covers are fixed by fiber friction and can also reduce noise and floor scratches. When installing, ensure that the foot cover matches the size of the wheel to prevent loosening or detachment.

When choosing a fixation method, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the usage scenario, floor type, and operational convenience. For example, in a home office environment, felt-type foot covers or fixators can be prioritized to protect the floor; in public office areas, brake pads or seat-activated brake wheels are more suitable for quick adjustment of states.
