Office Chair Wheels and Feng Shui

Admin October 12, 2026

There are different viewpoints in Feng Shui regarding office chairs with wheels. One view suggests that they may affect career stability, while another holds that the wheels themselves do not have an impact, and the key lies in the overall layout.

From some Feng Shui perspectives, office chairs with wheels may pose a risk of career instability. In Feng Shui philosophy, there is an emphasis on having a "solid foundation." An office chair with wheels creates a state of being "footloose," which is believed to deprive one's career of a stable base. This is akin to lacking firm support on the path of career development, making it prone to fluctuations and instability, thereby affecting the smooth progress and long-term growth of the career. For instance, in some traditional Feng Shui theories, it is believed that sitting on a chair with one's feet firmly on the ground allows for better absorption of earth energy and provides stable energetic support. However, the wheels on a chair enable it to move freely, making it difficult to establish a stable energy field, which may have a negative impact on career luck.

On the other hand, there are also Feng Shui viewpoints stating that the wheels on an office chair do not directly influence Feng Shui. The crucial factor is whether the layout of elements such as the chair's back support (the "mountain behind") and the assistance on both sides (the "helpers") conform to Feng Shui principles. Having a back support implies having strong support and reliance in one's career, enabling one to feel at ease at work and have the confidence to face various challenges. Assistance on both sides symbolizes receiving help and support from colleagues and partners during career development, fostering a positive interpersonal relationship and work atmosphere. As long as these layouts are reasonable, even if the office chair has wheels, it will not have an adverse effect on the career.

From the perspective of stabilizing one's career, it is advisable to choose a chair that has a back support, assistance on both sides, and a stable base. A back support can be achieved by placing the office chair against a wall or using tall cabinets or screens behind the chair as a "mountain." Assistance on both sides can be created by placing green plants or file cabinets on either side of the chair to create a balanced and harmonious atmosphere. For a stable base, one can opt for an office chair without wheels or with well-fixed wheels, ensuring that the chair remains stable during use, giving a sense of reliability and thus contributing to the stable development of the career.
