Office Chair Wheel Falls Off

Admin October 22, 2026

Whether the falling off of an office chair wheel constitutes a product quality issue needs to be judged based on the actual situation.

From the perspective of product quality definition, if the wheel falls off due to design flaws (such as insufficient structural strength), manufacturing defects (such as loose welding), or material problems (such as plastic aging and embrittlement) under normal use, maintenance, and storage conditions, it is considered a product quality issue. If it is due to consumers not following the instructions, for example, dragging the chair with excessive force, frequently moving it on rough surfaces causing the wheels to bear abnormal stress, or failing to maintain and store it properly (such as long-term exposure to a humid environment leading to metal part rusting or high-temperature environment accelerating plastic aging), it is generally not considered a product quality issue.

If you need to deal with a fallen-off wheel, you can follow these steps:

  1. Check the wheel condition
Determine whether the wheel has completely fallen off or is still partially connected to the bottom of the seat. If the plastic part is damaged and has fallen off but the iron core remains on the seat, special tools are required for disassembly; if the wheel is damaged but has not fallen off, it can be directly disassembled.
  2. Disassemble the wheel
For a wheel whose plastic part has fallen off, use a nail hammer to hook the iron core buckle part, and use another hammer to strike the seat load-bearing rod. After multiple strikes, it can be removed; for a damaged but not fallen-off wheel, hold the wheel with your hand and strike the seat load-bearing rod with a hammer several times to remove it.
  3. Prepare a new wheel
According to the type of the five-star foot plate of the seat, purchase a suitable new wheel. It is recommended to choose high-quality nylon casters, which have better wear resistance and impact resistance than plastic casters. At the same time, you need to clarify the caster size (common sizes include diameters of 7.5 cm, 6 cm, and 5 cm). You can check the model identification by removing the caster and turning it over to look at the bottom, or measure the side diameter with a vernier caliper to determine.
  4. Install the new wheel
Align the center of the new wheel with the mounting hole at the bottom of the seat and gently strike the center part with a hammer to ensure that the wheel fits tightly with the bottom of the seat. If the plastic rubber bushing (designed for some seats) is lost during disassembly, you need to purchase and install a new rubber bushing before installing the new wheel; otherwise, the wheel may become loose.
  5. Test the stability
After installation, gently shake the seat and observe whether the wheel wobbles or makes abnormal noises to ensure that the wheel is firmly installed and the overall stability of the seat.

If there is a dispute between consumers and producers or sellers regarding the cause of the wheel falling off, a professional appraisal institution can be used for appraisal to determine the liability.
