Disassembly of Office Chair Wheels

Admin October 11, 2026

There are several main methods for disassembling office chair wheels, and you can choose the appropriate operation according to the wheel type:

Disassembly of Snap-ring Rod Type Wheels

The snap-ring rod is one of the common fixing methods for office chair wheels. Its structural feature is that there is a snap-ring at the connection between the rod and the chair leg, which serves as a fixing function. When disassembling, you need to prepare a flat-head tool, such as a flat-head screwdriver. Insert the tip of the flat-head tool into the gap between the snap-ring and the chair leg, and pry the tool with force to deform the snap-ring, thereby prying the old rod out of the chair leg. Since the snap-ring has a certain degree of elasticity, the process of prying the rod requires a certain amount of strength. When operating, ensure that the tool is inserted to an appropriate depth to avoid damaging the chair leg or the snap-ring. If prying is difficult, you can appropriately adjust the angle of the tool and try prying from different directions, but be careful to apply force evenly to prevent the rod from suddenly popping out and causing injury.

Disassembly of Threaded Type Wheels

For threaded type wheels, their fixing method is through the connection between the thread and the chair leg. When disassembling, you need to use a small wrench, such as an adjustable wrench or an open-end wrench. Clamp the small wrench on the threaded rod and turn the wrench to the left to loosen the threaded connection. During the turning process, pay attention to keeping the wrench perpendicular to the threaded rod to avoid slipping and damaging the thread. If the thread is tight, you can first apply a small amount of lubricating oil, such as engine oil or WD-40, to the thread, wait a few minutes for the lubricating oil to penetrate, and then try turning it again. This will make it easier to loosen the thread.

Other General Disassembly Methods

If you cannot determine the wheel type or the above methods are not applicable, you can use the following general method. First, lay the office chair down so that the wheels are facing upwards for easy operation. Then, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently tap the connection between the wheel and the chair leg to loosen the wheel through vibration. When tapping, be careful to apply an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the chair leg or the wheel. After the wheel is loosened, use a hammer-like tool, such as a rubber mallet or a wooden mallet, to gently tap the wheel to completely remove it from the chair leg. When using a hammer, you can place a piece of soft cloth on the wheel to prevent the wheel surface from being damaged.
