Repair of Delamination of Office Chair Wheels
The delamination of office chair wheels can be repaired, specifically through cleaning, re-bonding, and reinforcement. Here are the detailed repair steps and precautions:

1. Clean the delaminated area
Thoroughly remove residual glue, oil stains, and impurities from the delaminated area. You can gently sand the delaminated surface with fine sandpaper (e.g., 800 grit or higher) or wipe it with a cotton cloth and a specialized cleaning agent (such as isopropyl alcohol). After cleaning, wipe the surface with a dry, lint-free cloth to ensure no moisture, dust, or oil stains remain, as these can affect the bonding effect of the glue. Key point: If the wheel material is polyurethane, avoid using cleaning agents containing acidic or alkaline components to prevent material corrosion.
2. Re-bonding treatment
Select a specialized glue that is compatible with polyurethane materials (such as polyurethane glue or epoxy resin glue). Apply the glue evenly to cover the delaminated area, with an appropriate amount (too much can overflow, while too little can result in poor bonding). After aligning the delaminated part with its original position, press it with moderate pressure for 5-10 seconds to ensure the glue fully penetrates the contact surface. Precautions: After bonding, keep the wheel stationary and avoid moving or applying force to it before the glue cures (usually requires 2-4 hours of static placement, refer to the glue instructions for specific time).
3. Reinforcement treatment
To prevent re-delamination, the following measures can be taken:
- Reinforcement with enhanced tape: Wrap a layer of fiberglass-reinforced tape or cloth-based tape around the bonded area, covering the delaminated area and a surrounding range of 1-2 centimeters to increase the bonding surface strength.
- Reinforcement with filler: If there are gaps in the delaminated area, inject polyurethane foam or rubber particles as fillers. After the filler cures, trim it flat and then cover it with tape for reinforcement.
Verification step: After reinforcement, manually shake the wheel to check for looseness and simulate daily use scenarios (such as rolling and bearing weight) to test its firmness.
4. Post-repair testing and maintenance
After repair, conduct thorough testing: Place the chair on a flat surface, move it slowly, and bear weight (it is recommended to simulate normal body weight) to observe whether the wheel is stable and free of abnormal noises. During daily use, avoid exposing the wheel to humid or high-temperature environments for extended periods and regularly clean the wheel and its bracket to reduce the risk of delamination.
Operating environment requirements: The repair process should be carried out in a dry, dust-free environment, with a recommended temperature range of 15-30โ (optimal for glue curing). If the wheel is severely damaged (such as being broken or deformed), it is recommended to directly replace it with a new wheel to ensure safety.
