Cleaning Office Chair Wheels

Admin October 11, 2026

You can clean office chair wheels by following these steps to ensure thorough cleaning without damaging the components:

1. Disassemble the Wheels

  • Snap-fit Type: Pinch the side of the wheel and gently pull it outward to remove it.
  • Screw-fixed Type: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws. Avoid pulling hard to prevent deformation of the wheel frame.
  • General Method: Turn the office chair upside down (with the seat facing down and cushion it with a soft cloth to protect the fabric). Hold the wheel bracket with your hand and pull it outward. If the snap is tight, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap to avoid scratching the bracket.

2. Pre-treat Stains in the Gaps

  • Hair Removal: Use tweezers or the tip of an old toothbrush to pick out hair and cotton fibers from the gaps. Clamp them in the direction of wheel rotation to prevent further tangling.
  • Stubborn Stain Removal: Dip a small amount of a mixture of warm water and dishwashing detergent. Wrap an old cloth around the wheel and rub it back and forth for 1 minute to soften dirt, chocolate stains, or fruit juice stains before cleaning.

3. Thoroughly Wipe Each Part

  • Wheel Body: Use a soft sponge dipped in a cleaning solution to carefully wipe the wheel. For small gaps in the spokes, use a brush to sweep away debris or soak it in soapy water and then scrub.
  • Bearing Part: Avoid getting it wet. Use a dry cloth to wipe off the loose dirt. If the bearing is stuck, drop 1 drop of sewing machine oil and gently rotate the wheel to expel the dirt. After it dries, drop 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricating oil (do not use cooking oil) and rotate the wheel to evenly distribute the oil.

4. Clean the Inside and Outside (Optional)

  • Internal Cleaning: Use your fingers or tools (such as scissors or a screwdriver) to remove debris. Use duct tape to pick up small fragments and discard them. Finally, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the remaining dust.
  • External Cleaning: Stubborn stains can be removed by cutting parallel to the wheel with a butter knife or by soaking in soapy water and then scrubbing. For wheels with sensitive materials, avoid long-term soaking to prevent rust.

5. Dry and Reinstall

  • Thorough Drying: Place the wiped wheels in a well-ventilated place to dry for 5-10 minutes. Especially ensure that there is no moisture left in the bearings to prevent rust.
  • Installation and Testing: Push the wheel onto the bracket snap until you hear a 'click' to confirm that it is securely installed. Turn the chair upright and push it to test. If there is still stuttering, check for any remaining debris.

Other Practical Tips

  • Stain Prevention: Stick invisible tape on the wheels. The adhesive is moderate and can be peeled off without leaving a sticky feeling, reducing the attachment of hair on the floor.
  • Convenient Wiping: Fix a damp and air-dried face towel on the wheels with a rubber band. When the chair moves, the dirt will rub onto the face towel.
