Office Chair Wheel Cleaning

Admin October 09, 2026

The cleaning of office chair wheels can be carried out in three steps: hair and debris removal, dirt cleaning, and post-cleaning treatment. The specific methods are as follows:

Hair and Debris Removal:
Hair wrapped around the wheel axle should be dealt with first. If the hair is loose, bend a paper clip into a small hook and use it to pull out the surface hair along the gaps in the axle. If the hair is tightly wrapped, gently pry open the wheel cover with a flat-head screwdriver, leaving a 3-4mm gap. Insert a box cutter diagonally into the gap to cut the hair, and then use tweezers to pick out the broken hair. For snap-on designed wheels, they can be directly pulled out by hand (if stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap). Place the wheel on a table and use tweezers to pick out long hair, carpet fibers, and other debris from the gaps along the direction of rotation.

Dirt Cleaning:

  1. Friction Cleaning Method: Wet a used face towel and let it air dry. Use the textured side to rub the wheels, increasing friction. Wrap the face towel around the wheel and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move back and forth to transfer the dirt onto the face towel.
  2. Brush Cleaning Method: Dip an old toothbrush in a small amount of neutral detergent and gently brush the surface of the wheel and the gaps in the bearings to remove dust and grease. After brushing, rinse the wheel with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), dry it with a dry cloth, and let it air dry in a well-ventilated area for 10 minutes.

Post-Cleaning Treatment:

  1. Lubrication and Installation: After the wheel has dried, apply 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant to the bearing. Rotate the wheel by hand to evenly distribute the lubricant. Align the wheel with the bracket snap and gently push it in until you hear a 'click' sound. Confirm that it is securely installed, then flip the chair upright and push it to test if the wheel moves smoothly.
  2. Anti-Dirt Measures: To reduce dirt on the wheels, you can stick invisible tape on them (keep it wrinkled to avoid excessive slipping) or place a small floor mat in your work area to reduce hair and dust from getting into the wheel axles. It is recommended to clean the wheels once a month to maintain optimal performance.
