Office Chair Wheel Buckle
The buckle of office chair wheels is commonly a snap-fit structure. Here are the methods for disassembly and installation:

Disassembly Methods
Rubber Mallet Tapping Method Place a rubber mallet or an old towel between the wheel and the floor to avoid scratching the floor. Gently tap the side of the wheel with the mallet (do not tap directly on the wheel surface). The vibrations will loosen the buckle, and then you can grasp the wheel and pull it outward. This method is suitable for situations where the buckle has a moderate degree of looseness. Control the force during operation to prevent damage to the wheel or the chair leg.
Screwdriver Prying Method If you don't have a rubber mallet, insert a screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg. Gently pry the position of the buckle while pulling outward. Be careful not to use excessive force to avoid breaking the plastic buckle or deforming the chair leg. This method is suitable for buckles that are relatively tight but not completely rusted.
Tool-Assisted Method
- Needle-Nose Pliers/Wheel Puller: Use needle-nose pliers to grip the top of the metal rod and slowly pull upward with the chair leg as the fulcrum; or use a dedicated wheel puller to grip the bottom of the wheel and pry upward.
- Heating Softening Method: If the buckle is stubborn and difficult to remove due to aging or dust accumulation, use a hairdryer to heat the connection between the wheel and the chair leg for 10-15 seconds. This will soften the plastic, and then you can quickly disassemble it. Maintain a safe distance while heating to avoid burns or plastic deformation.
Installation Method
Align the metal rod of the wheel with the slot on the chair leg and press down vertically with force until you hear a "click" sound, indicating that the buckle has fully engaged. After installation, check if the wheel rotates smoothly. If there is any jamming or looseness, readjust the angle or replace the wheel.
Precautions
- It is recommended to wear gloves before disassembly to prevent finger cuts.
- Regularly clean the dust in the gap between the wheel and the chair leg to reduce buckle wear.
- If the buckle is broken or the chair leg is damaged, replace the matching parts to avoid safety hazards caused by forced installation.
The snap-fit structure achieves fixation through plastic deformation. During operation, balance the force and skill to avoid irreversible damage caused by violent disassembly.
