Office Chair Welding Repair

Admin October 12, 2026

The detached welds on the legs of office chairs with iron frames can be repaired through surface treatment, adhesive repair, or physical reinforcement. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Preparation Before Repair

Gather all necessary tools and materials:

  • Basic tools: 80-grit and 240-grit sandpaper, wire brush, clean cloth, gloves, safety goggles;
  • Adhesive materials: Metal-specific AB glue (such as Henkel Loctite from Germany, Julibond JL-109), metal repair compound (for larger detached weld areas);
  • Reinforcement materials: Angle iron, screws (for auxiliary reinforcement);
  • Auxiliary materials: Alcohol or acetone (for surface cleaning), cardboard or plastic sheet (for mixing glue), wooden stick (for stirring glue), toothpick or small brush (for applying glue), clamps or heavy objects (for securing).

II. Surface Treatment

Key step: Thoroughly sand the detached weld area with a wire brush and sandpaper to remove rust, old paint, and impurities until the metal shines. Then, wipe the area with a cloth soaked in alcohol or acetone to ensure it is dry and free of oil. This step directly affects the effectiveness of adhesive or repair work and requires careful operation.

III. Adhesive Repair (for small detached weld areas)

  1. Mix the glue: Squeeze the AB glue in a 1:1 ratio onto a piece of cardboard or plastic sheet and stir thoroughly with a wooden stick until the color is uniform.
  2. Apply the adhesive: Use a toothpick or small brush to evenly apply the glue to the cracked area and the edges of the crack, ensuring the glue penetrates the gap.
  3. Press and secure: Align the cracked parts and press them tightly with clamps or heavy objects, holding for 20 minutes until the glue begins to set.
  4. Let it cure: After releasing the clamps, place the chair in a cool, ventilated area away from direct sunlight and let it sit for several hours to 24 hours until fully cured. Do not sit on or move the chair during this time.
  5. Sand smooth: After curing, sand any excess glue with 240-grit sandpaper to restore a smooth surface.

Special case: For small edge cracks, Julibond JL-498 metal quick-drying glue can be used instead, which can set in just a few seconds. However, note that its application range is limited.

IV. Physical Reinforcement (for loose or auxiliary repair)

  1. Prepare the angle iron: Use a file to remove burrs from the edges of the angle iron to prevent scratches.
  2. Adjust the position: Place the angle iron at the connection between the chair leg and the crossbar, and tap it gently with a hammer to ensure a tight fit.
  3. Secure with screws: Fix the angle iron to the chair leg and crossbar with screws and tighten them. This method is suitable for chair legs that are loose but not completely detached, or to provide additional security for adhesive repairs.
