Office Chair Weight Test
Office chair weight test standards are mainly divided into the international BIFMA X5.11 standard and domestic standards, with differences in test requirements, applicable user groups, and other aspects.

BIFMA X5.11 Standard
This standard is issued by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) in the United States, specifically designated as ANSI/BIFMA X5.11-2015, and is designed for office chairs used by large-bodied individuals. The tests are conducted based on a user weight of 400 pounds (approximately 181 kilograms), with a wide range of rigorous test items. For example, there is an 113 kg impact test to simulate the stability of the chair when subjected to a sudden, significant external force. There is also a 159 kg single-impact test to inspect the structural integrity of the chair under a single, powerful impact. Additionally, it includes a 159 kg load tilting test for 300,000 cycles to evaluate the durability of the chair during long-term tilting use, as well as an 181 kg load rotation test for 60,000 cycles to verify the performance of the chair under frequent rotation. Overall, the test intensity of the BIFMA X5.11 standard is one order of magnitude higher than that of domestic standards. For instance, the Qingxian Maxis Pro office chair has passed this extremely rigorous test certification, indicating its high reliability and stability when dealing with heavy users.
Domestic Standard
In China, office chair weight tests are conducted in accordance with the light industry standard QB/T 2280-2016 "Office Swivel Chairs". The domestic standard sets the official maximum suitable weight for office chairs at 102 kilograms (approximately 204 pounds). This means that all structures of a qualified office chair, including the armrests, must be able to safely support users within this weight range during design. Compared to the BIFMA X5.11 standard, the domestic standard focuses more on meeting the needs of most ordinary users, with relatively basic test items and intensities, but it can still ensure the safety and reliability of office chairs in daily use.
