Office Chair Weight-Bearing Standard
The weight-bearing standards for office chairs vary depending on the product type and testing scenarios, with the weight-bearing range of mainstream products typically falling between 100 kg and 200 kg. They can be specifically categorized into the following three types:

I. International Certification Testing Standard (BIFMA X5.11)
This standard uses a user weight of 400 pounds (approximately 181 kg) as a benchmark and evaluates the safety and durability of office chairs through multiple tests:
- Backrest Static Strength Test: No damage occurs under a functional load of 200 pounds (890 Newtons) for 1 minute, and the main structure shows no significant changes under a standard load of 300 pounds (1334 Newtons) for 1 minute.
- Five-Star Base Static Test: The base withstands a pressure of 2500 pounds (11120 Newtons) for 1 minute, and subsequent movement with added weight for 1 minute must ensure that the oil cylinder does not touch the test platform and the structure remains stable.
- Dynamic Impact Test: A 225-pound (102 kg) weight is dropped from a height of 152 mm onto the center of the seat, testing both the highest and lowest positions once each; the same test is repeated with a standard load of 300 pounds (136 kg), and the main structure remains intact.
- Rotation Test: A load of 225 pounds (102 kg) completes 60,000 360-degree rotations at both the highest and lowest positions without durability loss.
- Tilt Mechanism Fatigue Test: A load of 225 pounds (102 kg) tilts back and forth 300,000 times at a rate of 10-30 times per minute without structural damage.
- Impact Test: A 125-pound (57 kg) weight is dropped 100,000 times from a height of 25 mm without durability loss.
- Seat Front Leg Fatigue Test: Each front leg withstands a load of 165 pounds (734 Newtons) for 20,000 cycles without structural changes.
II. Market Mainstream Product Grading
- Entry-Level Products: With a weight-bearing capacity of approximately 100 kg, these are suitable for general office scenarios and meet basic usage needs.
- Mid-to-High-End Products: With a weight-bearing range of 120-150 kg, such as the high-weight-bearing five-star base design of the Sunon Butterfly Chair, which can support up to 150 kg, these are suitable for users with higher stability requirements.
- Products for Heavy Users: With a weight-bearing capacity of over 136 kg, for example, the Xiangyaojia F3A and T3A are recommended for a weight-bearing capacity of 136 kg, and the H6 model can support individuals weighing 110-200 kg (approximately 220-400 pounds), designed specifically for special body types.
III. General Weight-Bearing Range
The weight-bearing standard for ordinary office chairs is typically 100 kg to 150 kg, covering the needs of most office scenarios. If the user's weight exceeds 150 kg, it is recommended to choose products that have passed BIFMA certification or are clearly labeled as supporting heavy users to ensure long-term safety and comfort in use.
