Office Chair Wear Repair

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair wear repair requires different methods depending on the type of wear. Here are some common repair methods:

I. Minor Wear Repair for Leather Office Chairs If there are minor scratches or wear on the leather surface, cleaning is required first. Spray a multi-functional cleaner (such as a neutral leather cleaner) onto the worn area and gently wipe it in the direction of the grain with a soft-bristled brush or a clean cotton cloth to remove surface stains and the aged cuticle layer. After cleaning, let it dry naturally. Avoid exposure to sunlight or high-temperature drying to prevent the leather from shrinking and deforming. If there are minor cracks at the worn spot, apply a special leather care cream. The oil components in it can penetrate the leather fibers, restore flexibility, and form a protective film. The care cream should be applied in thin layers multiple times, with an interval of 10 - 15 minutes between each application to ensure complete absorption.

II. Damage Repair for Ordinary Office Chairs When structural damage such as tearing or delamination occurs on the seat or backrest, the repair method should be selected according to the material. For PU leather or artificial leather materials, a strong adhesive (such as neoprene adhesive) can be used for bonding: First, clean the burrs and dust at the edges of the damage. Apply the adhesive evenly on the contact surfaces. When the adhesive is semi-dry (about 3 - 5 minutes), align and press them together, and use a heavy object to press tightly for 24 hours to ensure curing. If the damaged area is large, non-woven fabric or a thin leather piece can be used as a lining inside to enhance the bonding strength. For fabric seat surfaces, a fabric-specific adhesive should be used. After repair, lock the edges with matching thread to prevent further cracking.

III. Tilt Wear Repair for Office Chairs If the chair tilts to one side, more than 90% of the cases are caused by wheel wear or base deformation. First, check whether the heights of the five casters are consistent: Place the chair on a flat surface and observe the contact between each wheel and the ground. If the caster feet are bent, use a pipe wrench or a special tool to correct them. If the rubber layer of the wheels is severely worn or the bearings are stuck, they need to be replaced as a whole. The replacement steps are as follows: Use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws of the old casters (for some models, the base decorative cover needs to be removed first). Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant inside the metal sockets of the chair. Align the new wheels with the sockets and knock them in vertically (a rubber mallet can be used to avoid damaging the surface). Finally, test whether the chair moves smoothly without abnormal noise when pushed. It is recommended to choose PU silent wheels with the same specifications as the original ones, which have better wear resistance and shock absorption effects.

Post-repair Maintenance Suggestions: Leather office chairs should be maintained with a professional care agent every month and kept away from direct sunlight. Ordinary office chairs should be kept away from sharp objects and the tightness of the screws should be checked regularly. The wheel system should be cleaned of tangled hair or threads every six months to extend its service life.
