Office Chair Water Ingress
Admin October 08, 2026
After water enters an office chair, it is necessary to immediately cut off the power to prevent short circuits and thoroughly dry it to prevent rust. The specific handling steps are as follows:

I. Power Cut-off and Preliminary Handling
- Cut off the power: If the office chair has electric functions (such as massage or heating), prioritize disconnecting the power cord or unplugging the charger to avoid safety hazards caused by short circuits.
- Drain surface water: Invert the seat to use gravity to drain internal accumulated water. At the same time, use a dry cloth or highly absorbent paper towels to wipe off visible water on the surface, reducing the risk of water penetration.
II. In-depth Cleaning and Drying
- Hardware component handling:
- Disassemble the screw connections (such as gas rods and adjustment buttons), and focus on checking the gas rod connections. If water has accumulated for more than 2 hours, use the cold air setting of a hair dryer to dry the gaps to prevent rust spots from forming.
- If the water level exceeds the height of the adjustment buttons, the internal spring structure may have absorbed water. Remove the outer cover of the gas pressure rod and use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to wipe the metal contact surfaces to avoid corrosion.
- Material-specific drying:
- Genuine leather seats: After absorbing the water with a dry cloth, use a special maintenance oil for care to prevent the leather from cracking.
- Mesh material: Check that the drainage channels are unobstructed to avoid mold growth caused by residual water.
- Fabric/upholstered seat cushions: For removable parts, follow the washing instructions on the label and machine wash (water temperature โค 30ยฐC, gentle mode); for non-removable parts, use a fabric cleaner or steam cleaner and then thoroughly dry.
- Leather/synthetic leather seat cushions: Dry with warm air or use the low-temperature setting of a hair dryer. Do not use baking soda or white vinegar for cleaning to avoid damaging the surface.
- Ventilation and airing: Place the office chair in a well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight (exposure to sunlight can accelerate the aging of plastic parts). The drying time should be 36-48 hours to ensure that the interior is completely dry.
III. Function Testing and Subsequent Maintenance
- Function check: After drying, test whether functions such as lifting and rotation are smooth. If there is any stuttering or abnormal noise, stop using it immediately and contact a professional for repair.
- Daily prevention:
- Place the cup holder above the armrest and keep it at a safe distance from the control area, or install a transparent waterproof tray.
- Avoid using it in humid environments. Choose seat cushions with good waterproof properties or place wool foot mats to improve waterproofing.
IV. Emergency Handling of Deformation Issues
If the office chair deforms due to water ingress, use clamps and dry towels to fix and straighten it, or heat it with a hot towel and manually restore its shape. However, avoid high temperatures that may damage the material.
Tip: If there is severe rust, circuit failure, or irreversible damage to the material after water ingress, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair person for handling. Do not disassemble the core components by yourself.
