Usage Methods for Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

The usage methods for office chairs mainly include three aspects: adjusting functions, healthy usage and posture adjustment, and activities for prolonged sitting.

Adjusting Functions

The adjustment methods vary among different models of office chairs. Taking the Sihoo M57 as an example, the headrest can be adjusted up and down by 8 cm, rotated by 45 degrees, and moved forward and backward by 4 cm. The lumbar pillow can be adjusted up and down by 5 cm, rotated by 45 degrees, and moved forward and backward by 4 cm, making it easy to find the right lumbar support position. The armrests are adjusted by pressing down on the lever under the chair. The Sihoo S300 has a headrest integrated with the backrest that can be adjusted forward and backward to match the heights of different people, and its lumbar pillow has a unique design. There are three common adjustment mechanisms: First, the lever adjustment system. Locate the adjustment lever near the right or left side under the seat, release the recline lock (if any), adjust your body weight to lean backward while adjusting the lever to a comfortable recline angle. If there is a locking function, pull up or push the lever again to lock the position. Second, the knob adjustment system. Locate the knob near the central lower part of the seat close to the support column. Rotate it clockwise to increase the recline resistance of the backrest and counterclockwise to decrease it. Some chairs have a separate knob to adjust the recline angle. Refer to the product manual for details. Third, the pneumatic adjustment system. The pneumatic lever is usually arranged together with the height adjustment lever. Adjust the recline by pushing it in different directions, providing a smooth adjustment experience.

Healthy Usage and Posture Adjustment

Regarding seat height, ensure that your feet are completely flat on the ground, and the angle between your thighs and calves is kept between 95 and 100 degrees. If the chair is too high, use a footrest; if it is too low, it will increase the pressure on your knee joints. For the sitting angle, lean back slightly at about 100 to 110 degrees, allowing your entire back, especially your waist, to fit against the backrest. If there is a lumbar support, adjust it to the point that supports the natural curve of your lumbar spine. The armrest height should be adjusted so that when your elbows hang naturally, your forearms can rest easily on the armrests or the desktop, with the angle between your upper and lower arms close to 100 degrees. The monitor height is also important. Elevate the monitor so that your line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, avoiding leaning forward and increasing the pressure on your neck.

Activities for Prolonged Sitting

Every 30 minutes, you can do some activities, such as hip joint stretching. Sit on the edge of the chair, spread your feet apart, cross one ankle over the opposite knee, and slowly press your back forward and downward. For lower back release, turn to the side, hold the back of the chair with your hand, and gently twist your body in the direction of the chair back. For shoulder opening exercises, sit up straight, raise one arm over your head and tilt it to the opposite side, or hold the back of the chair with both hands behind you.
