Materials Underneath Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

The materials underneath office chairs mainly involve three parts: chair legs, the black fabric under the chair, and the base plate. Details are as follows:

Chair Legs

Common materials for chair legs include metals (such as steel and aluminum alloy), nylon, or solid wood. Metal chair legs are strong and durable. Among them, steel chair legs have high strength and can bear a large weight, but they are relatively heavy and have a higher cost. Their surfaces are usually electroplated to enhance corrosion resistance and aesthetics. Aluminum alloy chair legs have the best overall performance. They are not only load-bearing but also corrosion-resistant, stable, and have a delicate appearance, often used in mid-to-high-end office chairs. Nylon chair legs are lightweight and quiet. After high-strength treatment, their safety is guaranteed, and they have a relatively high usage rate in office chairs. Solid wood chair legs are mostly used in high-end models, giving a natural and high-end feel.

Black Fabric Under the Chair

Common black fabric materials under the chair include non-woven fabric and high-density polyester. Non-woven fabric is inexpensive, has good air permeability, and can be naturally degraded, making it relatively environmentally friendly. However, its durability is relatively poor, and it is prone to shedding debris after three to five years of use. High-density polyester is like a tightly woven fishing net, with a weight per square meter of over 100 grams. It has extremely strong durability, is not easily deformed when pulled, and will not get moldy when damp. It is suitable for use in both heated floors and rainy seasons in the south. This material is often used under office chairs costing over a thousand yuan. Moreover, black is relatively dirt-resistant, and polyester dyed black is particularly firm, not easily fading even after ten years of use.

Base Plate

The main body of the base plate is usually a metal frame, formed by welding low-carbon steel pipes or die-casting aluminum alloy. This metal frame is sturdy in structure and can provide stable support for the office chair, ensuring the safety and comfort of the user during use.
