Office Chair Tray Replacement
Admin October 13, 2026
The replacement of an office chair tray should be carried out carefully according to the following steps:

I. Preparation
- Tool Preparation: Cross/flat-head screwdrivers, rubber or plastic mallets, adjustable or open-end wrenches, cleaning cloths. If the screws are rusted, prepare a loosening agent (such as WD-40) or rust remover.
- New Part Verification: Measure the hole spacing (e.g., 14cmร17.5cm) and center hole diameter of the old tray. Take clear photos (including screw hole positions and the center hole) and consult the merchant to confirm compatibility. Prioritize selecting a reinforced tray made of steel with a thickness of โฅ3.0mm.
- Safety and Environment: Clear a flat work area and lay down soft padding (such as cardboard) on the floor. Wear protective gloves during operation and ensure the gas lift is in its lowest position and not moving up or down.
II. Removing the Old Tray
- Removing the Five-Star Base and Wheels: Turn the chair upside down on the soft padding and directly pull up the casters on the five-star base.
- Separating the Five-Star Base from the Gas Lift: Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the connection between the center steel ring of the five-star base and the gas lift. Repeat the "tap-twist" motion until they loosen and separate.
- Removing the Screws Connecting the Seat and the Tray: Use a screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the seat and separate the seat from the tray (including the gas lift). Keep the screws safe.
- Separating the Gas Lift from the Old Tray: Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the connection steel ring between the tray and the gas lift while using your hands to twist up and down or stepping on it to assist in separation. If it is stuck, tap multiple times or spray the loosening agent and wait a moment before operating. This step requires patience. Avoid violent tapping to prevent damage to the gas lift or the tray.
III. Installing the New Tray
- Securing the Tray to the Seat: Align the new tray with the screw holes on the seat, use four short screws for initial fixation, and then use a wrench to tighten them one by one to ensure a firm connection.
- Installing the Gas Lift: Align the gas lift with the center hole of the tray, insert it vertically, and press it down gently until it fits snugly.
Precautions
- Keep the gas lift in its lowest position throughout the operation to avoid accidental lifting and injury.
- If the parts are severely rusted, spray the loosening agent before disassembly and wait 5-10 minutes before operating.
- After installation, check that all screws are tightened, the connection between the tray and the gas lift is firm, and test whether the chair's lifting and rotating functions are normal.
The replacement of the tray should be carried out carefully to avoid damaging the gas lift or the seat structure. If you encounter difficulties, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for assistance.
