Office Chair Tray Replacement
Admin October 10, 2026
The replacement of an office chair tray can be carried out following the steps below:

Preparation
- Tool Preparation: Prepare a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver, a rubber or plastic hammer, an adjustable or combination wrench, a cloth. If the screws are rusty, have a loosening agent (such as WD-40) or rust remover on hand.
- New Part Selection and Confirmation: The base trays of computer chairs are not universal. Measure the hole spacing (commonly, for example, 14cm*17.5cm) and the diameter of the central hole of the old tray. Take clear photos (including the screw hole positions and the central hole) and consult the merchant with the data to confirm compatibility. It is advisable to prioritize the purchase of reinforced trays made of steel with a thickness of 3.0mm or more, as they offer better load-bearing capacity and durability.
- Safety and Environment Preparation: Clear a flat and spacious work area. Lay soft pads (such as cardboard or old towels) on the ground to protect the floor and the appearance of the chair. Wear labor protection gloves to prevent scratches during operation. Ensure that the gas lift of the chair is in the lowest position and not extended.
Removing the Old Tray
- Invert the Chair and Remove the Five-Star Base (Wheels): Turn the chair upside down on the soft pad and directly pull up the casters on the five-star base with force.
- Separate the Five-Star Base from the Gas Lift: Use the rubber hammer to evenly strike the connection point between the central steel ring of the five-star base and the gas lift. After striking, pry the five-star base to loosen it. Repeat the process of "striking - prying" until they are separated.
- Remove the Screws Fixing the Seat to the Tray: Use the screwdriver to remove the four fixing screws that connect the seat to the tray. Keep the screws properly.
- Separate the Gas Lift from the Old Tray: Raise the gas lift to the highest position. Use the rubber hammer to evenly strike around the steel ring connecting the base to the gas lift. At the same time, use your hands to move it up and down or step on it for assistance, using the principle of leverage to separate the two. This process may take a few minutes.
Installing the New Tray (Taking the W13 New Third-Generation Tray as an Example)
- Install the Five-Star Base and Gas Lift: Place the five-star base with the bottom facing up, insert the five casters, and then insert the thick end of the gas lift into the five-star base and press it gently. Pay attention to the left and right positions of the armrests.
- Install the Armrests and Backrest: Use four half-threaded screws to fix the armrests to the backrest (do not tighten them yet). Then align the other ends of the armrests with the holes on the seat cushion, fix them with four fine medium screws, and finally tighten the eight screws with a wrench.
- Install the Tray: Align the tray with the four screw holes on the seat cushion, fix it with four fine short screws, and then tighten them with a wrench.
- Insert the Gas Lift: Align the round hole of the tray and insert the gas lift, pressing it gently.
- Install the Headrest and Lumbar Pillow: Use the knob to fix the headrest to the backrest, place the lumbar pillow, and fasten the headrest. The installation is complete.
