Office Chair Tray Replacement
Admin October 09, 2026
The replacement of the office chair tray (base) should be carried out in accordance with standardized steps. The specific process is as follows:

I. Preparation
- Tools and Materials
- Tools: Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers, rubber or plastic mallet, adjustable wrench, cloth; if the screws are rusty, prepare a penetrating oil.
- Parts: Measure the hole spacing (e.g., 14cmร17.5cm) and the diameter of the center hole of the old tray, take photos and consult the merchant for compatibility; prioritize choosing a reinforced steel tray with a thickness of โฅ3.0mm to ensure load-bearing capacity and compatibility.
- Safety and Environment: Clear the operation area and lay a soft mat to protect the floor; wear protective gloves during operation and adjust the gas lift to the lowest position to lower the center of gravity.
II. Removing the Old Tray
- Turn the Chair Upside Down
Place the chair upside down on the soft mat and unplug the casters from the five-star base. If the casters are snap-on type, use a nail to hook the snap and tap gently to remove them; if they are screw-fixed, simply unscrew them. - Separate the Five-Star Base from the Gas Lift
Use a rubber mallet to tap evenly around the connection between the center steel ring of the five-star base and the gas lift. Try to pry the five-star base to loosen it and repeat the "tapping-prying" process until it is completely separated. - Remove the Seat from the Tray
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the four screws connecting the seat to the tray and separate the seat from the tray (including the gas lift). - Separate the Gas Lift from the Old Tray
Raise the gas lift to the highest position and use a rubber mallet to tap evenly around the steel ring connecting the base to the gas lift while using your hands to pry up and down or stepping on it to assist in separation. If it is stuck, tap multiple times or spray with penetrating oil before operating. Avoid using a metal hammer to tap directly to prevent paint damage or component indentation.
III. Installing the New Tray
- Fix the Tray to the Seat Cushion
Align the new tray with the screw holes on the seat cushion, fix it with four short screws (e.g., 6ร20), and then tighten them with a wrench to ensure a firm connection. - Connect the Gas Lift
Insert the gas lift into the round hole of the tray and press gently to confirm that it is installed in place. - Assemble Other Parts
Adjust the position of the armrest cushions, place the lumbar support, and check that all parts move smoothly to complete the installation.
IV. Precautions
- Part Compatibility: When purchasing a tray, ensure that the hole spacing and the diameter of the center hole are the same as those of the old part to avoid installation failure due to size mismatch.
- Operation Specifications: When disassembling, use a rubber mallet first to prevent damage to the parts caused by a metal hammer; if the tray is stuck to the gas lift, tap multiple times or spray with penetrating oil to assist in separation.
- Safety Protection: Wear gloves throughout the operation to avoid cuts; adjusting the gas lift to the lowest position can reduce operational risks.
