Office Chair Tray Repair
Admin October 13, 2026
Office chair tray repair can be carried out according to the following steps:

1. Safety Inspection and Preliminary Observation
Place the chair in a non-loaded and level state. Visually inspect key parts of the tray, such as the connection between the five-claw bracket and the casters, the central turntable, and the interface of the gas lift rod, to check for cracks, deformations, or detached components. Shake the seat with your hands to preliminarily determine the source of the shaking sensation, providing a direction for subsequent repairs.
2. In-depth Cause Diagnosis
- Loose mechanical connections: Long-term use may cause the screws connecting the seat cushion and the tray, or the tray and the five-claw bracket, to become loosely detached.
- Worn nylon slide rails/plastic snaps: The nylon slide rails that control the tilt angle or the plastic snaps used for fixation inside the tray may turn white, become brittle, or wear out after long-term friction, resulting in increased gaps and shaking.
- Aged interface components: The metal clips or inner plastic sleeves at the interface between the gas lift rod and the tray may wear out or become loose, leading to an unstable connection.
- Distinguishing from gas lift rod issues: If the lifting and lowering functions are normal and the shaking is only limited to the connection part, the problem is mostly with the above-mentioned interface components. If the lifting and lowering malfunction or the chair slowly sinks, it may be due to gas leakage inside the gas lift rod, and replacing the gas rod should be considered.
3. Targeted Repair Operations
- Screw tightening: Use an appropriate screwdriver or wrench to tighten all visible connecting screws one by one.
- Replacement of worn parts: If it is confirmed that the nylon slide rails, plastic snaps, or interface plastic sleeves are worn, you can purchase corresponding parts online or contact the manufacturer to buy the right models for replacement.
- Overall tray replacement: If the metal structure of the tray is severely deformed or the wear is too severe to be solved by replacing small parts, the most reliable method is to purchase a new tray of the same model or a universal model for overall replacement.
4. Handling of Special Situations
- Screw thread slippage: If the screw hole is stripped and the screw cannot be tightened, try wrapping Teflon tape around the screw threads and then screwing it in to increase friction. If this is ineffective, consider using a larger screw or a thread repairer.
- Screw model identification: There is no unified standard for office chair screws. The common specification is metric M6 (with a diameter of 6mm) and a length between 20 - 30mm. The most accurate way is to disassemble the old screw, measure its outer thread diameter with a caliper, or directly take the old part to a hardware store for comparison and purchase.
