Removal of Office Chair Tray

Admin October 09, 2026

Removing the office chair tray requires separating the tray from the gas lift. Here are the specific steps:

I. Tool Preparation

  1. Basic Tools: Rubber mallet (for tapping and separating), screwdriver (Phillips or flat-head, depending on the screw type), pry bar (for assisting in prying), nails (for removing snap-fit wheels).
  2. Optional Tools: Gloves (to protect hands), penetrating oil (for rusted parts), hexagonal screwdriver (required for some designs).

II. Operation Steps

  1. Flip the Chair
Place the chair upside down on a stable surface or soft mat to avoid scratching the seat or floor. This step provides stable support for subsequent operations.

  2. Separate the Seat from the Tray

    • If the tray is fixed to the underside of the seat with screws, use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws (usually 4) and separate the seat from the tray.
    • If it is an integrated design (no independent screws connecting the tray and the seat), skip this step.
  3. Tap to Separate the Tray from the Gas Lift

    • Raise the gas lift to its highest position to increase the gap between the tray and the gas lift.
    • Use a rubber mallet to tap evenly around the steel ring connecting the tray to the gas lift. Tap in a circular motion to avoid deformation caused by single-point force.
    • While tapping, try to move the tray up and down with your hands or gently step on it to assist in separation. If it is a snap-fit structure, use a flat-head pry bar to gently pry the snap-fit parts around the tray.
  4. Handle Other Connecting Parts

    • Snap Ring Fixing: If you need to completely disassemble the tray assembly, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the snap ring in the center of the tray that fixes the gas lift, and then lift the gas lift.
    • Wheel Removal: For snap-fit wheels, use a nail to hook the snap-fit part and tap lightly to remove it; for screw-fixed wheels, simply unscrew them.

III. Precautions

  1. Rust Treatment: If the screws or connecting parts are rusted, spray penetrating oil and let it sit for 10 minutes before operating to avoid stripping the screws due to forced turning.
  2. Excessive Resistance: If there is excessive resistance when tapping or moving, or if the tray and the gas lift cannot be separated, do not force the operation. It is recommended to contact a professional repair technician to prevent damage to the parts.
  3. Operation Specifications: When tapping, the force should be evenly distributed to avoid local force causing deformation of the tray or the gas lift; wearing gloves throughout the process can reduce the risk of scratches.

By following the above steps, you can systematically complete the disassembly of the office chair tray. If you are not familiar with the component structure, it is recommended to first observe the connection method (screws, snap-fits, or snap rings) and then choose the corresponding tools for operation.
