Office Chair Tray Broken

Admin October 19, 2026

After the office chair tray breaks, you can choose the following repair methods based on the extent of the damage:

I. Overall Tray Replacement

If the metal structure of the tray is severely deformed (such as misalignment or bending at the break) or worn (such as surface rust or thinning) to the point where it cannot be repaired, you need to purchase a new tray of the same model or a universal model for overall replacement. Before replacement, ensure that the model matches. You can obtain the model information by checking the chair's manual, theๆ ‡่ฏ† (mark/label) on the bottom of the tray, or contacting the manufacturer. Disassembly and assembly require professional tools (such as Allen wrenches and screwdrivers) to avoid damaging other components through violent disassembly. If the tray is connected to a hydraulic rod, fix the hydraulic rod first before disassembly to prevent spring rebound injuries.

II. Replacement of Worn Components

If the break is caused by the wear of non-metal components such as nylon slides or plastic buckles (such as whitening or embrittlement of the slides, or breakage of the buckles), you can purchase corresponding model parts online for replacement. The nylon slide is a key component for controlling the recline angle. After long-term friction, it may become brittle due to aging and require targeted replacement. When replacing, first disassemble the tray shell (usually fixed by buckles or screws), remove the old slide, and then install the new part. Pay attention to aligning the slide track with the recline mechanism to avoid affecting the chair's function.

III. Temporary Reinforcement

If the break is small (such as local cracks or small gaps) and emergency use is required, you can wrap the damaged area with iron wire from the bottom of the tray twice and tighten it, and then wrap the edges with waterproof tape to prevent punctures and moisture. This method is only suitable for temporary emergency use. Long-term use may cause the iron wire to loosen or the tape to age, exacerbating the damage. If the tray bears the weight of a person, avoid frequent reclining or violent movement of the chair after temporary reinforcement.

Precautions:

  • Before repair, ensure that the chair is unloaded and placed flat, and visually inspect key components (such as the hydraulic rod and five-star base) for cracks or deformation to prevent secondary damage during the repair process.
  • If hydraulic devices (such as the tray of a lifting chair) are involved, have a professional replace the oil seals or repair the linkage mechanism to avoid the risk of hydraulic oil leakage or explosion due to unauthorized disassembly.
  • Regular maintenance is required on a daily basis (such as checking the tightness of the tray screws every 3 months and cleaning the dust in the slides every 6 months) to replace aging components in a timely manner and extend the service life of the chair.
