Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chairs are various types of chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities, with the English term being 'office chair'.

In terms of classification: OfficeMate categorizes office chairs into narrow and broad definitions. Narrowly defined office chairs refer to backrest chairs used by individuals in a seated position while performing desk work. These chairs primarily serve people who need to work at a desk for extended periods, with their design focusing on providing basic seated support. Broadly defined office chairs encompass all chairs used in offices, including executive chairs and staff chairs. These chairs are further subdivided based on usage scenarios and functional requirements. For example, executive chairs are typically used in management offices, emphasizing comfort and a sense of authority; staff chairs, on the other hand, prioritize practicality and cost-effectiveness, suitable for daily office use by ordinary employees.

Computer chairs as a subcategory of office chairs: Computer chairs are seats specifically designed for office and study environments, belonging to the category of office chairs. They alleviate fatigue from prolonged sitting through ergonomic design and are mainly divided into types such as work chairs, student chairs, and mid-back chairs. Their design features include adjustable headrests, lumbar supports, and explosion-proof steel plates, among other components, which can adapt to users of different body types and provide personalized support. For instance, adjustable headrests can accommodate the neck support needs of users of different heights, lumbar supports effectively reduce lower back pressure, and explosion-proof steel plates enhance the safety of the chair. The upholstery of computer chairs includes materials such as linen, mesh, and leather, while the chair legs are made of nylon and aluminum alloy structures. The selection of these materials must meet load-bearing and durability standards to ensure the long-term performance of the chair.

Quality and safety aspects: In recent years, the quality and safety issues of office chairs have attracted significant attention. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada initiated a recall of office chairs manufactured in China due to the risk of backrest breakage, which posed a falling hazard. Twelve reports had been received, including ten injury cases. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation conducted a national supervision and inspection of office chairs and found that 15 batches of products were unqualified, with stability issues being particularly prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States once again initiated a recall of WorkPro Momentum office chairs manufactured in China due to the risk of bolt failure, which posed a falling hazard. Seven reports had been received, including two minor injuries. These incidents remind consumers to pay attention to product quality certifications and safety standards when purchasing office chairs and to avoid buying products with potential safety hazards.
