Office Chair
Office chairs are various types of chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. They can be divided into narrow and broad senses, and have different characteristics in terms of development history, quality and safety, and price.

Narrow and Broad Definitions: OfficeMate categorizes office chairs into narrow and broad senses. A narrow-sense office chair refers to a backrest chair used by people in a sitting position for desk work. This type of chair mainly meets the basic sitting needs during daily office work and provides a certain degree of support and comfort for users. A broad-sense office chair encompasses all chairs used in offices, including executive chairs, staff chairs, etc. Its application scenarios are more extensive, and different types meet the needs of different office scenarios and personnel.
Development History: Office chairs originally evolved from Windsor chairs and have undergone multiple improvements. Thomas Jefferson modified it into a swivel chair, making it convenient for users to rotate their bodies flexibly during office work and improve work efficiency. Charles Robert Darwin added wheels, making the movement of office chairs more convenient. Thomas Warren invented an office chair with a rotatable, sliding, and elastic seat surface in 1849, further enhancing the comfort and functionality of office chairs.
Quality and Safety Situation: In recent years, there have been some issues regarding the quality and safety of office chairs. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada implemented a recall of office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking, which could lead to falls. Twelve reports had been received, including ten injury cases. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation found that 15 batches of products failed the national supervision and inspection of office chairs, with stability issues being particularly prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States implemented a recall of WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China because the bolts might fail, posing a risk of falls. Seven reports had been received, with two people suffering minor injuries.
Price Situation: There is a significant price difference among office chairs on the market. There are relatively affordable products, such as a free-shipping office seat mesh training chair, meeting room chair, reception chair, breathable staff chair, backrest chair, and four-legged mahjong chair priced at 58 yuan; a computer chair with a mesh back for offices, a mahjong chair-specific meeting chair, a staff chair, and a breathable chair for student dormitories priced at 60 yuan. There are also higher-priced products, such as a 4D alloy linkage ergonomic chair for long-term sitting and lumbar support, an office chair seat, a home study computer chair, and an employee chair priced at 1099 yuan.
