Office Chair
Office chairs are chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. Computer chairs are a type of office chair, and there are differences between the two in terms of definition, classification, design, and quality safety.

Definition and Classification The English term for office chair is 'office chair'. According to usage scenarios, office chairs can be divided into narrow and broad categories. The narrow sense refers to backrest chairs used for desk work in a sitting position, emphasizing functionality. The broad sense covers all chairs used in offices, including executive chairs, staff chairs, conference chairs, etc., with a wider coverage. Computer chairs are seats specifically designed for office and study scenarios, belonging to a sub-category of office chairs. Their core goal is to alleviate fatigue from prolonged sitting and enhance user comfort through ergonomic design.
Design Features The design of computer chairs places greater emphasis on ergonomic adaptability. Their components include adjustable headrests, lumbar supports, explosion-proof steel plates, etc., which can adjust support positions according to different body types to reduce pressure on the lumbar and cervical spine. The choice of fabrics is diverse, covering materials such as hemp, mesh, and leather, balancing breathability and durability. The chair leg structure uses nylon or aluminum alloy and needs to meet load-bearing and stability standards. The design of ordinary office chairs focuses more on basic functions, such as fixed backrests and simple armrests, and some products may lack adjustable features.
Quality and Safety Risks There have been multiple quality and safety incidents in the office chair field. In March 2023, the United States and Canada recalled office chairs made in China due to the risk of backrest breakage leading to falls, with 12 reports received, including 10 injuries. In September 2024, China's State Administration for Market Regulation found 15 batches of office chairs to be unqualified during inspections, with stability issues being prominent. In January 2025, the United States recalled WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China due to bolt failure that could lead to falls, with 7 reports received, including 2 minor injuries. These incidents indicate that the quality and safety of office chairs require focused attention on structural stability, material durability, and component reliability. Computer chairs, as a sub-category of office chairs, also need to comply with relevant safety standards, but currently, the publicly available recall information does not clearly distinguish the risk differences between them and ordinary office chairs.
