Office Chair Transformed into Flower Stand

Admin October 11, 2026

An idle iron office chair can be transformed into a practical and aesthetically pleasing flower stand. Here's how:

I. Basic Transformation: Single Chair to Flower Stand

  1. Remove the Seat Cushion
Use a screwdriver or wrench to detach the seat cushion and its connecting components from the office chair, retaining the main frame structure. If the cushion is made of leather or fabric, it can be discarded directly; if it's wooden or plastic, it can be recycled separately.

  2. Rust Removal
Thoroughly sand the surface of the chair frame with a wire brush or sandpaper, focusing on removing loose rust, old paint layers, and burrs to ensure a smooth metal surface. For severe rust, soak it with a rust remover before sanding to prevent residual rust from affecting the adhesion of subsequent coatings.

  3. Spray Anti-Rust Paint
Choose an outdoor anti-rust paint (such as bright orange, blue, or other highly saturated colors) and evenly spray it onto the chair frame to form a protective layer. Maintain a distance of 20-30 centimeters during spraying and apply 2-3 thin coats to avoid runs. For a vintage look, opt for matte paint; for decorative purposes, choose metallic gloss paint.

  4. Install Flower Pots
Select flower pots (such as ceramic or plastic pots) that fit the size of the hollow area in the middle of the chair frame. If the hollow is large, use wire or zip ties to secure the flower pots to the chair frame; if it's small, simply insert the flower pots and place a leak-proof pad at the bottom to prevent soil loss.

II. Advanced Transformation: Long Chair Backrest to Fence Flower Stand

  1. Cut the Backrest
If the office chair is a long chair style, use an angle grinder or hacksaw to cut the backrest part from the chair frame, retaining the vertical railing structure. Wear safety goggles and gloves during cutting to prevent metal fragments from flying.

  2. Reinforce and Rust-Proof
Check the stability of the railing connections after cutting and reinforce them with welding or wire binding if necessary. Resand the cut surfaces and spray anti-rust paint to ensure the overall structure is corrosion-resistant.

  3. Combine and Install
Fix the transformed backrest railings vertically next to a garden fence or wall to form a three-dimensional flower stand. Small flower pots can be hung in the gaps between the railings, and large potted plants can be placed on the bottom platform, serving both decorative and storage functions.

III. Precautions

  • Safety Protection: Wear gloves, safety goggles, and a mask during the transformation process to avoid metal cuts or inhalation of paint fumes.
  • Environmental Adaptation: If the flower stand is used outdoors, choose an anti-rust paint with strong weather resistance and regularly check if the coating is peeling.
  • Load-Bearing Limit: Select lightweight flower pots (such as plastic or ceramic) according to the material of the chair frame to avoid structural deformation due to excessive weight.
