Office Chair Trade-In

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair trade-in is a service model where professional recyclers assess the value of old chairs and directly deduct that value from the purchase cost of new chairs. The specific rules, procedures, and advantages are as follows:

I. Deduction Rules

  1. Brand and Material Affect Valuation
Well-known brands (such as Herman Miller, Steelcase, Okamura, and Aurora) and office chairs made of solid wood or metal have higher residual values. For example, brand-name ergonomic chairs can be deducted by 50-150 yuan each, while generic chairs can only be deducted by 5-20 yuan each. In terms of materials, chairs with metal frames or solid wood components have significantly higher recycling values than those made of plastic or fabric due to their durability.

  2. Usage Years and Condition Determine the Deduction Ratio
The number of usage years directly affects the residual value rate: old chairs used for 1-3 years have a relatively high residual value, typically able to be deducted at 30%-50% of the original price; those used for 3-5 years have a medium residual value, deductible at 15%-30%; and those used for 5-8 years have a lower residual value, but still have value when recycled in bulk. The better the condition (such as complete accessories, no obvious damage, and normal functionality), the higher the deduction ratio. For example, a well-maintained 3-year-old chair may be deducted at 40% of the original price, while a severely worn chair of the same age may only be deducted at 15%.

  3. Specific Case References
One agreement stipulates that old chairs are deducted at 20% of their original value; in another case, 20 brand-name ergonomic chairs were deducted by 1000-3000 yuan, averaging 50-150 yuan per chair. In an actual corporate case, a company in Guangzhou had 50 3-year-old Aurora brand old chairs valued at 18,000 yuan. The total cost of the new office fit-out was 80,000 yuan, and the final payment was 62,000 yuan, with a deduction ratio of 22.5%.

II. Operating Procedures

  1. Online Preliminary Assessment
Users need to provide information such as photos, brand, model, quantity, and usage years of the old chairs, and the recycler will give a preliminary valuation within 1-2 working days. This stage does not require an on-site visit, facilitating quick screening of recycling intentions.

  2. On-Site Precise Assessment
Professionals inspect the furniture on-site, confirm the brand, material, and degree of damage, and then provide a formal quotation (usually free of charge). For example, if the old chair has severe sagging or missing parts, the valuation may be lower than the preliminary assessment result.

  3. Select New Chairs and Deduct the Value
After the user selects the style of the new chairs, the assessed value of the old chairs is directly deducted from the purchase price. For example, if the total price of the new chairs is 100,000 yuan and the assessed value of the old chairs is 20,000 yuan, the actual payment is 80,000 yuan. Some agreements specify a deduction cap. For example, one contract stipulates that 100 old chairs are deducted at 20% of their original value, totaling a deduction of 20,000 yuan (the total price of the new furniture is 800,000 yuan, and the actual payment is 720,400 yuan).

  4. Simultaneous Execution
The production of new chairs and the recycling and removal of old chairs are carried out simultaneously, and the handover of old and new chairs can be completed on the day of relocation, avoiding employee downtime.

III. Additional Advantages

  1. Seamless Connection: The removal of old chairs and the installation of new chairs are completed on the same day, reducing the risk of office interruptions.
  2. Cost Savings: Combining moving and delivery services may waive the moving fees.
  3. Simplified Communication: Only one company needs to be contacted, reducing the coordination costs between recycling and procurement.
