Office Chair Total Recline
Admin October 11, 2026
The total recline of an office chair is usually related to the chair's design, improper use of adjustment functions, or usage conditions, and can be resolved through targeted adjustments.

Chair Design Factors
- Unlocked Tilt Mechanism: Some office chairs are designed with a dynamic tilt function. If the angle is not locked using the bottom lever or button, sitting pressure can trigger recline. Check if the locking device is in the 'fixed' state; usually, there will be a noticeable click or sound when locked.
- Material and Structural Issues: Insufficient frame strength (e.g., aging plastic parts, loose metal connections) or overly soft cushion and backrest materials (e.g., low-density foam) can cause excessive deformation under load. For such issues, contact after-sales service for part replacement or overall maintenance.
Improper Use of Adjustment Functions
- Incorrect Tilt Tension Adjustment: The resistance adjustment knob at the bottom of the chair (usually located centrally beneath the seat) controls the recline resistance. If the resistance is too low, even a slightly heavier person may cause the chair to recline; if too high, it will be difficult to tilt. Adjustment Method: Rotate clockwise to increase resistance and counterclockwise to decrease it; test repeatedly according to body weight until balanced.
- Locking Mechanism Failure: If the locking device (e.g., lever, button) is stuck or damaged, the chair cannot be fixed at an angle. Try cleaning dust from the locking area or spraying a small amount of lubricant; if still ineffective, replace the locking component.
Usage Conditions and Precautions
- Incorrect Sitting Posture: Excessive recline or shifted center of gravity (e.g., unilateral force) can exacerbate recline. Correct Sitting Posture: Keep your back against the chair back, move your hips back to the depth of the cushion, place your feet flat on the ground, and keep your knees and hips at a 90ยฐ angle.
- Uneven Ground: If the chair legs are uneven or the ground is tilted, the chair may slide or recline towards the lower side. Use a level to check the ground or adjust the height using the anti-slip pads at the bottom of the chair legs.
- Excessive Seat Depth: If the distance from the front edge of the cushion to the back of the knee exceeds the width of 2-3 fingers, it can cause the back to hang in the air. Solution: Adjust the chair back angle to 90-100ยฐ or use a lumbar support to fill the gap between the waist and the chair back.
Additional Suggestions: High-end ergonomic chairs may be equipped with multi-level adjustment functions (e.g., seat height, armrest angle). Refer to the instruction manual for step-by-step adjustments; if the chair still reclines frequently after adjustments, it may be due to aging (e.g., air rod leakage, frame deformation). It is recommended to contact after-sales service for maintenance or replacement.
